I just thinking about what is the future for the internet. Surely it can't be too long before its super-regulated and parts get restricted. Already many isps are using speed caps and fair usage policies. Will piracy ever be stamped out? Granted the internet will get faster but what will we use it for.
Streaming HD movies perhaps, more media content.
Itll be interesting to see what its like in say 10 years time or even 5 years.

what does everyone think?

We'll do far more on the internet. We'll watch TV through it for a start. We can see that happening now and it will be the norm in years to come. It will be the hub of the home. Media won't be stored locally but it will be streamed from central providers. So new songe, for example, would be rented rather than owned (or more likely you'll pay a set fee per months and have access to their library while you're subscribed).

Currently the internet or at least websites seem very 2 dimensional, I foresee a change in the future bringing depth to interfaces in a way that works.

We need more IP address, otherwise internet future bad!

I think IPv6 fixes this problem. ;) :p

I don't think the Internet will be more regulated, sure they will try, but in the end it will just be the Internet only faster and with more uses such as streaming TV as another poster mentioned...

More regulation would be against the ethos of the internet, and not a particularly good solution.

The main problem at the moment is bandwidth. More fair usage policies, more capping, traffic shaping, higher contention raties, more users and yet every day more HD streamable content being added to popular video sites.

Like "Hackers", surfing through a city-scape structure to access what you need. The globe will be duplicated and you can navigate right to someone's home if you'd like.

I'll bet Google already has it in the works.
