The G.E.C.K - Vault Tec component.

I don't think he's set up for hot air - at least not in the soldering sense ;) :p - but I'm pretty sure he has a desoldering iron with built-in solder sucker. I know because it's his fault I bought one (and very useful it has been too).

Presuming you are using hot air and not just trying to somehow wick and replace with an iron, I'd try giving the entire board some baseline heat first, might take a while with the heat sink on but with big mass like that a lot can soak in and cause difficulty getting big components off (happens with HDMI on consoles for example). Perhaps pop the heatsink off while performing the soldering job.

I have a hot air gun. I tried that too. What was concerning me was that there are several tiny caps on the front side. It just isnt worth it tbh. Itll only end in tears :D

Socket finally arrived.

As did the second lot of thermal glue I bought (other one not arrived) and the CR batteries I needed.

Took it apart and replaced thermal paste.

And then made sure the enormous NVME cooler would fit.

I am about to begin prep on the back side cooler.

Well the double sided tape I use for CNC also has other uses it seems lol.

Clean.

Goop.

And done.

I tell you what I am so lucky. Any larger and it would have covered the screw holes you need access to to take it apart to paste etc. Also, the VRAM is literally *right there* in that square.

Poifect.

Evri bringing the IEC plug later. So I can hopefully finish that today too !

Well that was a badly dished heatsink. Still not perfectly flat but the goop should more than handle the slack - especially for an ancillary heatsink :D

Well it is either that or the MDF is plap. It is never coming off, that's for sure lmao. That is why it is sealed in a bag. Even the sealed tube has been known to turn to rock
I am now waiting on the SSD to arrive. I did not splurge on a 1tb yet, instead grabbing this from poo bay for 12 quid INC.

It's not often I exhibit common sense but yeah, I should do that before spending big on a drive.

Am also making the Bazzite stick now too.
