I've reinstalled The Golf Club earlier today now I've got a laptop that can actually play it but I just can't seem to get the simplest of shots right!?!?!

I'll be on the fairway (or the tee for that matter) with lets say 206 yards to the hole, top right it says my club will hit 210 yards and 2-3mph wind going with me.

I'll do a full 100% swing, pretty much straight (certainly WELL within the red "cone" on the shot graphic) and I'll end up 15-20 feet short of the hole and generally off to one side!?!?!?

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong???

Sounds about right! Pretty realistic, it would soon become boring if you ended up a couple of Inches from the hole every time.
You have bounces to contend with contours of the green, wind to allow for etc... then you have putting to contend with which is imo the most realistic of any golf game I've ever played, in other words rock hard!!

But fundamentally, if the shot doesn't go where the indicators say it's going to, then why bother having them - just make every shot random! (which is how it feels sometimes!)

Use a different club?

You mean pick one that suggests the shot will be massively overhit or underhit - where is the logic in that??

I know golf games can't be precise all the time but surely if you hit the ball well, within the "strike zone" then the ball should end up somewhere close to where you want it to!

You need a club that will allow for a longer hit, then depending on wind and whatever else you dont hit the shot at 100%, maybe with a 260yd club you need to hit it 87%

What is the best way to get 87% though? Is it literally guesswork in how far you draw the club back or are you better off using the loft setting within the shot modification? (which again seems to be very much guesswork!)

Also, when a club says "xxx yards carry" I've always taken that to mean the point at which the ball hits the floor again (adjusting for whether the target area is higher or lower than the shot position) - is this correct??

You guys think you have issues.. try whacking it in VR. Unless you have any kind of competency with a real club, coming up 100 yards short is a regular thing.

Times you nail it and play through the ball anywhere near distance, normally results in doubling with physical impact in my room:o
