the goodies

It's been brilliant, hasn't it?

And apparently the ratings have been excellent, despite the late time-slot, which should hopefully give Auntie a good reason to run more of them and more often.

yes i hope they put more on
i always wondered why they never put them back on before now
they were just nuts to watch, i havent laughed so much in ages watching the tv

Stinks that they wont let them show on iPlayer, would love to watch The Goodies again, same with Dad's Army which they also don't show on iPlayer, seems very strange they will show quite recent Films but not show these Golden Oldies :(

I nearly had a heart attack the other day, when I saw the Bun Fight at the OK Tea Rooms. :D

I didn't realise that they were playing more episodes... Love the Goodies.

I was wondering what the reason for this was. They probably want to make money out of just sticking them on dvd.

Knowing the Beeb, it's probably some big-wig that doesn't want the viewing figures from iPlayer to show some 70's stuff getting Millions more viewers than their latest James Nesbitt or David Tennant offerings ever will ;) Rather than any Licensing Agreement thing. :D

That wouldn't surprise me :D but I had a look around and found “The Goodies… At Last the 40th Anniversary! on DVD” so this may well be the reason.

Now to find a resaon to buy this. :D

It was great at just gone midnight on christmas day watching Goodies and the Beanstalk. :D

Own all the DVD's but was dog-sitting and idly channel hopping while waiting for people to come back from church and ended up watching it. Only taken them 40 years to get round to it.

No need for a reason - just buy it. :D

More likely the BBC don't have the rights.

TV rights, DVD rights and VOD rights are all separate things that cost, even the rights to show something on a +1 channel can be separate to the rights to show it on the normal channel.
Even just the sub rights for music can be a tricky issue (hence why some TV shows ended up with new music on the DVD releases*).

IIRC the Goodies gang jointly own the rights to the Goodies as was originally shown on the BBC (if that makes sense), rather than it being owned outright by the BBC, whilst their ITV stuff is owned more by ITV (similar to the way that various old Doctor Who monsters are only able to be used with the agreement/payments to the Terry Nation estate).
I vaguely remember reading how when they went to ITV they got a bigger fee but at the expense of various rights - didn't their ITV contract stop them working together for years after the Goodies TV series ended?

My guess is the BBC negotiated the rights for the TV use, but either couldn't get the rights for the Iplayer, or didn't think it worth the extra - or the BBC used an old "option" for repeats that was negotiated before VOD and didn't consider it worth the additional cost to renegotiate the package in full just to get the VOD option.

Rights are complicated...

Either way, it's good to see them back on TV :)

*Apparently in some cases "music rights" are paid for and negotiated on a per episode basis depending on the artist/company - even when it's the same bit of music every time in the same slot.
