The Grand Tour

Though I do have a question about the Vulkan bit, on the old TG they had to test that on some F1 track in the middle east as it was too loud for the UK, but Grand Tour managed to test it in the UK, any ideas why?

Kimbie

Because it's not really too loud for the UK. It's too loud for most road-car track days, but it'll be fine on race/test days. If TG/TGT are hiring a track for a day, then I'd imagine the noise constraint agreement they'll have will restrict that day to a typical track-day noise level.

It's a bit sad really. Many pre-existing tracks in the UK (see Brands Hatch as one of the best examples) which were built far from any housing. Since then, housing was built near to the track, after which noise complaints to the council means they restrict the noise and/or days the track can run.

No such concerns at many tracks in more sparsely populated countries around the world.

I'm not sure why every episode has to be some epic montage of fantastic cars with cinematic style editing in order to get people's approval?

There were hundreds and hundreds of distinctly average old Top Gear episodes made - see the dave repeats. The epic stuff should just be for special episodes.

I liked episode 2. It was not as good as episode 1, but I didn't expect it to be given the cars they had on episode 1.

No one is saying every episode needs to be ridiculous montages. Some of the best episodes of Top Gear had very basic premises and low budgets.

Episode 2 was a load of crap. How anyone found the repetitiveness funny I have no idea. It was just annoying. I think it's actually worse than what Top Gear used to be.

Long serving fan of TG / Clarkson & Co and I also found this boring...

Never really watched Top Gear religiously but still really appreciated it. I much preferred when they did epic adventures or racing crazy fast cars with silly attitudes.
Really enjoyed both episodes of the GT so far. Epic cars is great and then reviewing a more average car (like the M2) was about perfect. I also think the new 'stig' is hilarious.

I think the best of Chris Evans' Top Gear eclipsed the 2nd TGT.

It really didn't do it for me.

I agree with Jalopnik, they've sort of tried to make the program a globally focussed one, the American racing driver needs dumping asap and let the "Celebrity in a...." replacement farce go.

I think there is going to be a lot of "testing" going on with this series. Working around the list of things they can and can't do for various reasons. The one thing i will agree with is that the American race driver doesn't do anything for me and is a bit annoying... I'm not sure i like the track either!?!

Episode 2, was a load of crap. Chris Evans' was much better. I hope #3 can make a recovery.

It's not working for me again. It's lost something that I can't put my finger on. It's got cars on so that's good, but it feels more forced than ever these days, less natural, more blatant.

Fantastic episode. Easily the best of the three, really back to what it should be.

Had me howling with laughter in parts, especially with Clarkson explaining how Aston have "civilized" the cars electronics :D

Why do people get so emotional over top gear, but still continue to watch? I cannot understand. If I do not like something, I just watch something else.

We loved Top Gear, but all the presenters confirmed that they are trying out lots of things, and its an evolution where they get somethings wrong, and somethings right, and season 2 will be more mature.

Surely that is all that needs to be said, and people cant watch, enjoy, the end....?

rofl, even soaps was better, ok maybe not that far.

time for episode 3.

Haha it swapped an eye for a nostril. Love that car style over function, how cars should be unless you're a good race driver.
The brown Aston is also nice think the colours brilliant.

good episode, looks like we'll have the celebrity bit for the rest of the season, hopefully they get the message and kill that next season. House demolition brilliant, Italy tour was very good, just could have done with something more about the place, just lacked that final push that the TG specials had, I know it wasn't a special but still.
