The graphics card minefield...

At some stage market is going to get flooded with graphics cards IMO. Consoles are also coming down in price as supply is increasing. PS5's for 389........makes these gfx cards value questionable.
I think that's the most frustrating part. The collective we showed just how much we were willing to pay to get the latest and greatest when the availability was low.

They were supposed to be a 'flood' of cards when crypto crashed.

PS5 digital has always been cheaper but is there any stock?

I'm in a similar situation, currently I've got a 2060 super and looking to upgrade.

I'm going to hold off at the mo, see what happens to the market once nvidia release the 4060 / 4070's in hope it forces some pricing changes.

Been waiting long enough now, a few more months won't hurt.

I think what NVIDIA and AMD have gotten wrong here is that people will pay but they have to see a reason for huge prices increases, pandemics, miners, and so on but NVIDIA's "Moore's law is dead" we all know is not a reason.

I am afraid though, that NVIDIA trying it on like this will keep prices inflated for some time to come.

Yes agreed 100%, and to be fair you can't blaim them. As much as we all want companies to be these amazing for the consumer entities. Profit really is the final goal, so why take less when they know they can get more...

Talking about top tier pricing i'd wait till the next price drop, or mid/end January, whichever you feel is when can't hold out any longer. Xmas is just not a great time to buy, too much cash sloshing about. Everyone knows current pricing around 4080 and 7900xt isn't sitting right, and there has already been a downwards push on the 6800xt and 6900xt cards.

The 7900xt is still in stock on amd direct ( even bundled with CPUs)and the 4080 is still in stock at Nvidia direct. Those are essentially rrp prices and people are not rushing to buy.

There also seems to be still a lot of old stock (it looks like more rdna2 than ampere)around retailers however most have not reduced prices on these to anything reasonable. Some 6900xts are listed at more than £900 as an example and some £700.

People selling 2nd hand are also still in denial and think the gpus they overpaid for are still worth £800+.

The price drops would probably happen a lot quicker but unfortunately it looks like some less informed people are still actually buying last gen gpus and new gpus at all these prices thinking they are getting good deals based on the previous 2 years madness.

Literally in this exact same position …

Torn between 6950xt/6900xt

And the 4080/7900 at 1100 ish…

What would feel terrible is buying any one of them then seeing a price down of 10-20%. I think things will potentially drop but I don’t think by a ton and in electronics there is always the time value of tech… things will always be cheaper later but how much do you want/need it now.

I think 6900xt/6950xt will serve us great at 1440p and will let you also jump into 4k without a problem… 6950xt was the top raster card on the market a few months ago!! DLSS of course is great and so is FSR.. RT is relevant but I’ve never ever thought about using it…

Honestly I am carving out £1200 in my mind to spend now and it’s either on just a card (7900xt/4080) or a 6950/6900 + 5800x3d to upgrade my 5800x….

Never an easy choice but at the end of the day if you gaming next week on a sweet rig you’ll forget all about it and time heals all!

Why would you not buy a 6950 XT?!

A) That channel = fake overlay
B) Here's why not..

I’m itching to upgrade my card as well. Even tho in reality my 3070 is perfectly fine for what I need. I wanted an XTX but the current preorder models don’t seem to represent great value (although the 40 series doesn’t either).

I’ve got two systems (share one with wife)

5800x and a i5-12400 (not sure which one id use! 3070 in amd at the moment and 5700xt in the intel.

I’m starting to lean towards getting 6950/6900 and re evaluating in 9months

OC just jacked their price on 4080 back up from the £100 off I was considering just doing that

I was also closely looking at the 6950 xt that does seem to be where the value is.

Yeah that was the Palit 4080 it didn’t stay £100 off for long!
