The Hangover

Went to see this last night with the missus - she recommended it.

I thought it was pretty funny. Some very good moments - even a couple I forgot until I went through this thread.

The highlights for me were Carlos at the breakfast table, Phil when they're putting the tiger in the copcar and the bit where the dude spits on the baby - I burst out laughing really loudly at that point - one of the few in the cinema...very noticeable hehe :)

Oh, and the closing credits were class :)

Just watched this, loved it! Laughed at the 'slide on back there fat Jesus' bit for example along with lots of other bits. Thought it was class.

Watched this on Thursday and I enjoyed it. Its not as amazing as some people made out though.

I watched Anchorman for the first time on Friday and it was a far superior comedy in my eyes. :)

I watched Anchorman for the first time on Friday and it was a far superior comedy in my eyes. :)

See I thought Anchorman was fairly bad due to the severe over-the-topness that is Will Ferrell, as much as I admire his talent. I found The Hangover much more entertaining because it was the kind of tone between people that I can relate to rather than incessant cheesy lines. Different crowds are being appealed in each film however.

Just to elaborate a bit more about what I thought about this film...

I thought the characters were great, believable yet entertaining. I enjoyed the whole 'male outing' thing. I thought Alan was hilarious. The film was amusing without being overly stupid, as I grew out of 'Hot Shots' humour years ago.

Watched it today, not impressed for a film that's so highly rated (for example, it scores higher than Airplane! on IMDB - work that one out!).

Now I'm sure having mentioned a slapstick film for comparison some people will just instantly draw some kind of conclusion as to the type of humour I like (see the 'Hot Shots' comment above) and think I just don't get this type of humour. And maybe that's true to some extent, but I'd like to think that I'm broadminded enough to appreciate a range of humour. To pick something a bit more similar to The Hangover, I thought Sideways was better (although again, a bit overrated).

Basically I was sat there watching it and after 20mins or so I was thinking OK, so there's been a few gags, some of which were mildly amusing, but it just seemed like the sort of film you sit down to watch with someone thinking "why the hell did I choose this film?".

Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy but it is very rare I see a film that truly impresses me these days.

I didnt laugh much at it either, and it was pretty predictable as well. I mean other comedies know what the audience are expecting and they to use the american throw a curve ball.

Like the Tasering, they all get tasered thats it. I thought they were going to be clever and have one of the kids get tasered or something unexpected. The rain man montage, what?. The guy that turns out to not be the guy I saw a mile away.

Saw this last night with my wife. Neither of us generally go for this type of comedy, so I started out a bit dubious.

I'd agree with those who says it's over-rated (I mean, come on, rated higher than Airplane?!). But it did win us over in the end. It's not hilariously funny, but it does maintain a decent level of humour throughout. Overall, we both found it very... likeable would probably be the best word. Amiable, I guess. Glad we watched it, and pleasantly surprised.

I guess that's a positive review. :)
