Perhaps I'm naive but I've been surprised recently that a number of Scottish, Welsh and Irish people still have a deep dislike of the English. Is this solely due to historical differences or something else?

Is the fact that England is a more populous and wealthier country an issue?

I'm not trying to start any trouble ... just curious.

@DJMK4. I get that. It's a bit of banter between the neighbouring nations. Totally understandable. I've been guilty of that on many an occasion.

@Pestilence. If we're all guilty why are the English targeted in particular? Because we're more accomplished at it? :D

I always want the Scots, Irish, and Welsh footy teams to do well but they all want us to lose. It seems to be the younger ones that want us to fail. Never had a problem with the older generation.

My dad is from NI. Ards in particular. He's been here over 50 years and shows no signs of picking up our accent. He's never had a problem with the English but then he is a proddy ******* :D

Time for a change Tephnos. In the spirit of solidarity you have to display the St George Cross in your window for a whole week. Scratch that. We don't want you getting hurt.

Please fully star out swear words!

You might meet pockets of people that dislike the English in far flung countries but by digging a bit deeper you'll normally find that an Irish, Scots, or Welsh person has been there first and polluted their mind :D

There's no English people backing me up here. They're probably off somewhere else being arrogant and self-assured.

I've been there a couple of times DaZe. Such friendly people.

I was tipped off about the places I can and can't go though. All I had to do was follow my cousin and his Rangers shirt and I was guaranteed of safety.

Hopefully superiority isn't judged by the size of a population. That would mean the French are slightly superior to us. That won't do at all.

It also means the Americans are vastly superior! I ain't having that :D

I've yet to meet an English old timer that really doesn't like the Irish, Scottish or Welsh. They might spout off in the pub about it but if one of 'em walked in the pub they'd be chatty. I think sometimes people say what they're conditioned to say without giving it any thought.

the guy in the following pic is Danish. He used to love the English until he befriended another pal from Dublin who turned him against us. Relishing a challenge I made this pic:

He was fuming!

I should say "really?" to that but in reality the only response is "it's a side-effect of being awesome where others aren't" :D
