What the hell? For the first time, two of the martial arts greats, Jackie Chan and Jet Li, are working in a movie together. And what great idea does the production team have? Inclue a Westerner!
Yes! The have a white "lost traveller" in the group of Asians which REALLY makes sense. It just smacks of including him to gain a foothold in the Western market with people who aren't that interested in solely asian movies. And speaking English as well... He's supposed to be a silent monk, but does Jet li actually speak English? Subtitles would have worked fine, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero and House of flying Daggers were huge in Western cinema, why would this have been any different?
Just makes me sad that a film which looks really interesting might lose a load of its appeal just beacuse it's bowing to pressure in an attempt to attract markets.

I don't think it's meant to be a comedy, but comedic soemtimes, I can see JC and JL fulfilling those roles well. But again, it would have been great without that aspect, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE FUNNY FOR US TO WATCH IT

In case anyone else is looking for it, the film is called The Forbidden Kingdom, I went looking for The Hidden Kingdom and found a documentary. :o

Jet Li and Jackie Chan are both quite good comic actors but I'm hoping it isn't a comedy, the trailer doesn't look particularly promising on that front though so I'm now hoping that the action scenes are enough to compensate for that.

but the story calls for a westerner to goto asia... that means someones writtena story that involves sending a westerner to asia and meeting asian people. and now JC and JL have been cast as said asians.

I dont think someone sat down and went: ok so we have jackie chan and jet li, what could we write that includes these two? hmm i know they fight a lot and erm are funny sometimes oh yeh! we need to have a westerner in there to draw in the crowds. So lets revolve a story around that.

its great, stunning, funny and one for Blu-Ray purchase release thats for certain - Jackie Chans best film and Jet Li in it just makes this unmissable

Fantastic movie, lightish on plot but heavy on martial arts.

Why oh why can't they make more of these?!

As mentioned though the story really didn't need to have a westerner in it but movies aren't just about telling stories anymore are they, they're about making money and a westerner will attract a broader audience.

I also believe they're going to massacre this film before it gets over here.

It's meant to be a two part 4 hour, film or somehting like that but I read somewhere that they're only going to release a two hour version over here.

Jackie Chans best film and Jet Li in it just makes this unmissable

sorry but its average at best maybe 7 out of ten.its like big trouble in little china vs mortal kombat and monkey magic.jackie chan at his best watch his first films.modern ones are carp.Jet li doesnt do to much either.there are some decent fight scenes but earlier films from both are a lot better.

I watched this and thought it was a good film. Great fights too. It had one little twist in which it made me think 'oh should have known that!!'

Anyone else think Jet Li as the monkey king looked like a Blood Elf Paladin?

Just thought id add. I watched this film last night, and i didnt think the american kid helped the story any, but i think jackie chan and jet li were brilliant.

it was good fun. i enjoyed it a lot :)

It wasnt too bad, but not a great film!!!

SPOILER:

Almost wet my self when Jackie Chan was meditating and Jet Li aided with a golden shower!!

Thought it was rather poor, the american kid makes me want to learn martial arts and then find him and kill him.

Haha class. You aint wrong there mate. I wanted to punch him in the head too.

Fun lighthearted film though. nice change from other films out

this film is not to be compared with crouching tiger, hero etc. aside from a few cool fight scenes, all this film did was remind me of mortal kombat :/
