Release date is 13th December.

Full trailer is being released on Tuesday. I liked the first one but did not love it, I hope with the introduction of Smaug in this film it will be better.

Yay! Hopefully this film covers them getting to he end of the woods with the elves.

Reread the book after seeing the first film and think that would be the most logical place to break it up/make a good film as this should have most the good bits in it :) (3rd film will have the big fight and a fair bit more license to play with the story as Tolkkin got lazy writing it)

Exciting stuff!

I wasn't blown away by the first film. I think it felt like I'd waited an age for something magnificent only to be slightly disappointed. I'm still looking forward to the next one though :D

I read 'There and Back Again' was coming out around Feb 14th.

Though that was on the Cineworld Website about 6 months before the release of 'An Unexpected Journey'

I'd imagine a big chunk of this film will be set in Mirkwood, and I'm hoping Peter Jackson doesn't follow the same old formula and focus only on the EPIC ACTION. It has the potential to be really creepy. He's got to somehow find the balance between the stunning photography we expect and the complete darkness described in the books.

As much as I love Lord of the Rings and feel he got a lot of the atmosphere right, including some genuinely chilling imagery, he failed to make the encounter with Shelob anything like it should've been. I'm scared of spiders and I didn't flinch through any of that.

Indeed. It was more like an 80's B-Movie than a character considered if not more than equally dangerous than a Balrog.

The Shelob scene felt weak, unrehearsed, cheap and filled with to much bravado.

I want to feel like a spider is about to jump out from behind my chair by the end of the Mirkwood scene

Agree on Shelob. One of the very few aspects of the movie they failed to get right, IMO. It was just a big spider with no character or uniqueness at all.

Anyway, the first Hobbit movie bored me senseless I'm afraid....and I found some of the humor strangely misplaced. I'll probably still see the next two though.

>>>Yes using 'modernisms' is dumbing down and does not work, the trolls used modern jokes, it just doesn't work.

Stop it.
