So i've just ordered a HR-03 for my ATIX1900XT and theres one thing im still a little.. unsure on.

Applying thermal paste, ive searched around and only found guides for CPU;s and stuff.

Wondering if any who has installed a HR-03 can chime in with some advice?

I'll be using the thermalright thermal compound that comes in the box fyi.

thanks in advance guys.

Treat it as a naked CPU when applying thermal paste, small drop and spread it out using a credit card or the heatsink squish method.

Personally I use the credit card method as it allows better control of where the TIM goes.

thanks, but what about cleaning off the old stuff, my friend says just clean it off using some tissue/cotton swab,

but everywhere ive read says use some alcohol

Thanks a bunch for the help, the cooler has been installed now with a Zalman ZM-2 92mm fan attached to it. and it's not even breaking 60 on a full load now! Thanks a bunch!

A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES!

How can i adjust the speed of the new fan?

i plugged the zalman fan into the motherboard using its little capacitor addon thing ( was worried it might break otherwise ) is there anyway for me to manually control the fan speed of it like i was able to on the GPU Fan ?

I'd like to make sure its set as full 100% so i can have a tinker with my over clocking tendancies from long ago.

Thanks a bunch guys

note - im running an AX8 v2.0 motherboard, Windows Vista Ultimate x86.

that little capictor thing is actually a 7v resistor which slows the fan speed down remove this and rig the fan straight up to them mobo it wont break it and should run at full speed as for controling the speed youll need a fan controler

thanks for the info on the fan capacitor!

You guys ROCK!

still, is it possible that theres a software clock out there?

temps have dropped LOAAAADS

idle has gone from 65 to 40
load has gone from 90 to 58

Thanks for the Advice <3<3<3

EDIT: scratch that on the load, i was just playing supremem commander multiplayer everything on full and it was at 48 ;)

you may want to google for rivatuner which is an overlocking utility or Ati tray tools i think it is, i have personally never used them and you may get more responses if u posted a new thread about how to overclock you graphics card in the graphics card forum, those temps are awsome load 48 is really good for that card.

just to clarify, thats 48 degrees ... IS CLOCKED ALSO, albeit not much

690 core

800 memory, its as high as CCC lets it go by default and im having some problems getting past it, even using ATI Tool it just seems to give up and stop.

and all things like adaptive anti aliasing and high quality AF all that stuff in the CCC is on :D

I think you find that supreme commander don't fully stress a GPU card....

Do you have to plug the HR and/or the 92mm fan into anything or does it get it's power from the PSU connector on the graphics card like the stock cooler does?

the heatsink is completely passive, you remove the entire fan-heatsink thats attached the card and attach the HR-03 in its place.

The 92mm fan that you have to buy seperately, attach's to the HR-03 via some provided clips and is powered by any of the spare fan sockets on the motherboard or your PSU if you have a 3 to 4 pin adapter
