Hey Guys,

I was wondering how much longer the i3-2100 processor would 'last'?

Like being able to play games well at high settings with a decent GPU?

Also with the 1155 socket, will the Ivybridge be using this socket too? (so i can upgrade if needed)

EDIT: Would it see me through games like Skyrim and BF3?

2100 is good chip, im currently using it atm till my I5 comes next week although i noticed a big difference between the i3 and my Q6600 @ 3.2ghz in games like bc2 i saw an increase in frames and loading times with the i3 evan tho its only a dual core
 
it out preforms any current amd in games only advantage amd has is video encode and other muti threaded tasks. here are some benchmarks:

the last one shows video encoding where its at its worst but still gives some 4 and 6 core cpus a run for there money, if i wasnt flush atm i would not get the i5 as this chip is really good and i plan to overclock as im running xfire 6950s and dont want a bottleneck other than that i cant fault this chip seen as i only use it for gaming and watching movies
 
just goes to show if Intel do bring out a unlocked K variant of the i3 it will be a stonking chip.

So if i get a decent 1155 board i can upgrade to Ivybridge? (I heard IB may need a BOIS reset, and this couldnt be done by the user so you would need a whole new MOBO, however Gigabyte have a dual-bios, so they are able to reset easily)

It needs to be either a P67 or Z68 chipset to support Ivybridge. All of them will (should), be able to support Ivybridge with a bios update.
