*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

So its where it should have been when it was first released? no wonder they can lower the price :p

It has the same CPU, same screen, oh, stereo speakers....but i think they are both in the same end so i don't see the point of that.

I guess if you like 3G, GPS then get one. If not then don't, quite simple really. The interface is still the same, in fact v1 can run the new firmware too so they will have identical software.

I know this sounds like a downbeat question and Im not trying to be snide - but is this really only 3G? Expected HSDPA by now, a year ago 3G might have been fine, but Ive been using HSDPA for nearly 2 years (since Vario 2 came out) and I dont think I can downgrade my net conn just for the phone...

Its a real shame as I wouldnt mind trying a non-WM phone for once...

HSDPA is a 3G protocol, and apparently yes that is the one the new iPhone will have (rather than than the older UMTS protocol which I think you are confusing with '3G').

I can't believe there's no video calling on it :(

sorry but quite literally who, other than I guess you and whoever you call, cares?

I literally live in the industry and I've never, ever been video called other than years and years ago by a mate who realised we both had early 3g phones so gave it a go.

The novelty lasted about 30 seconds and that was it.

Video calling imo is the biggest waste of time ever and I'm actually GLAD apple have acknowledged this.

its not a case of apple acknowledging it, its just apply not bothering to implement it as per usual (and for the record i think its pointless too). did apple acknowledge that video recording, sound recording, copying numbers for the sim card, MMS, skinning ect....werent needed on the original iphone?

of course not, they were all features that people have had to add by means of jailbreaking and installing 3rd party software. and dont forget the crap blutooth support either.

Yeah, sorry should have made my post a bit more informative - only reason I raised it that Ive seen the ads saying 'twice as fast as the old iphone online' and assumed that meant UMTS.

Be great to get that confirmed as it makes it a worthwhile prospect...

Same here.
In almost every respect, my N95-8Gb is still arguably better.

If this 'iPhone2' had all those + a 3MP+ camera fixed/added, then i'd be getting one.

On paper, the N95 is still better. No doubt about that.

However, I find the iphone a lot more satisfying to use.

an N95 is completely better to use IF you make use of the 5mp camera, mms, video etc

there's a suprising amount of us out there that don't!

I would like to have bluetooth transfers, A2DP and AVRCP, I would also like them to get a bit less precious about ringtones. Those are the only, relatively small, issues to me.

I'll totally admit its not the most all singingest phone, sometimes it feels like they made it just for meeeeeeee :)

Exactly how i feel about it as well...not too fussed about the camera tbh but leaving out MMS and video recording is quite frankly ludicrous and shocking. Yes i know you can get 3rd party apps for it ie mms can be attained by using Swirlymms but from what i have heard....its absolute garbage.

Honestly i was hoping Apple would have rectified a lot of the stuff that was missing on the 1st iphone and put it on the 2nd gen iphone but seems like they didnt:(. Shame as i was ready to buy one...still might pick one up though...will have to wait and see what the situation is with unlocking etc.

let me get this right

the iphone cant send or receive picture msgs??

I've never tried sending on my Iphone but I think they trying to push people to do stuff more via email over mms most likely due to the web based nature of the phone. It receives pictures rather well via email imo.

That's my view on it anyway :)
