Indeed - it's a bit misleading for Apple to have the following on the Upgrade Programme page: "You can also choose to make low monthly payments without AppleCare+." and then link you to 'Apple Payments'

I wasn't going to but someone mentioning the new apple cases having metal buttons for the 7 tipped me over the edge, ordered a black 7 plus 128gb with black leather case, 0% interest for 4months with PayPal credit plus got corporate discount on the case, saving me a whole £4!.

Get to pass my 6s plus onto my mum which is a bonus, and she's giving me the 6 64gb I give her a few months ago so I'll sell that to recoup some of the cost.

That might have been me :p

Agreed but it does kind of make sense. If they allowed the upgrade programme without AC+ then they'd have issues with people returning damaged phones and just how much damage is 'acceptable'.

As it is there are unanswered questions. If you tried to return a damaged phone for upgrade, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple said that it needed repairing under your AC+ contract and you were thus liable for the excess.

The only "issue" is that the upgrade is a poor deal. If you want interest free credit over 20 months then go for it but, if you're planning to take the upgrade option, you're better off buying outright and selling the old phone yourself.

Exactly. Even flogging the old phone to the recycling companies will get you a better deal than the Apple upgrade programme, let alone if you actually sell it 'properly' on AVF or similar.

AppleCare+ isn't thrown in at all, the £119 cost is added to the cost of the phone and you pay for both over 20 months.

AppleCare+ (note the plus!) is tied to the handset and must be taken out at time of purchase or very soon thereafter (following an inspection of your phone at a shop).

The original AppleCare was much cheaper and all it did was effectively extend your manufacturer's warranty to two years. You could take that out at any time during the first year.

That's no unavailable and replaced with AppleCare+ which costs more but also provides protection for two claims of accidental damage, with a £25 excess for a broken screen or £79 for any other damage. This has to be taken out when you buy the phone or within about 30 days (I think) afterward, in which case you have to have your phone checked at a store to prevent people who drop their phone straight away trying to pull a fast one.

The upgrade program forces you to take AppleCare+, which you still pay for.

AppleCare is transferable and if you upgrade you effectively get the second year refunded so you can get two fixes per year rather than two fixes per two years.

It works out that you get roughly 40% of the value of the phone vs 60% with other recycling companies when you upgrade. However as long as it switches on and has no cracks then Apple will accept where as any scratches will significantly affect the value though anyone else. Regardless if you get to the end of 12 months and find some mug willing to pay loads you still sell.

It might not be the cheapest option but def the least hassle.

Spot on, the T&Cs say the following :

http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/sales-support/iphoneupgrade_uk/

Condition of Financed iPhone when Exercising your Upgrade Option. As noted above, your Financed iPhone must be in good physical and operational condition when exercising your Upgrade Option as determined solely by Apple or Apple’s Trade-In Partner (“Trade-In Partner”). For a Financed iPhone to be considered in good physical and operational condition, the Financed iPhone must:
Power on and hold a charge;
Have an intact and functioning display;
Have no breaks or cracks; and
Have Activation Lock disabled (you may be asked to disable at the time of upgrade).

What's everyone's shipping status btw? my 32GB iPhone 7 and silicone case are both at preparing to dispatch.

My series 2 SS Watch is still at processing.

My 256g+ gold serial is now showing on the my support profile page. So I have my phone assigned to me, can't wait until Friday :D

I got an e-mail asking whether I wanted to book a personal set-up appointment. I'm going to assume that the kind of person who buys at launch isn't going to want that. :p

For any folks interested, had a chat with EE Retentions on the phone just 5 minutes ago. They are actually able to discount the upfront costs! :p

I've just ordered the 7 Plus 128GB in Black. They also claim to have stock and will be delivered on release day... (will not hold my breath)

- 4GEE Max Plan
- 12 month upgrade option
- 40GB data, unlim mins/texts
- Use text, mins and data abroad (I'm sure there are T&Cs on data)
- £65.99 per month
- £29.99 upfront (discounted from £149.99)

The 25GB data plan they can also discount the £99.99 upfront to £9.99. Only other thing is £7 for delivery with DPD.

EDIT: I'm obviously an existing EE customer so may have some bearing on the offer.

Are you sure what you got? As soon as I get a chance to sit down with some time I'll give them a ring.

I can only see the 40GB tarrif listed as £70.99 a month and £129.99 upfront
And the 25GB £65.99 and £149.99 upfront everything else is the same.

I was tempted by there 12month sim only 10GB for £15 +vat offer
