The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (28)

I'm getting the error that is shown in the title. I was using my ipod touch 4th gen and the screen went dead. I connected it to itunes and it says "Itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with Itunes"

So, I clicked restore, Itunes downloaded the last IOS and went to update and got the error in the title. I have no idea how to restore it now and stop getting that error.

Anyone got any idea?

Error 23, 28, 29: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with the white USB Dock Connector cable that shipped with your device, on a known good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value, (00 499901 064000 0), can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software can also cause these errors.

First result in Google for 'iTunes error 28', so you could have got a quicker answer searching yourself.

I did, and people was saying all diffrent things on other forums. So, thought I'll see what you guys say.

So, I need to take the ipod into apple now?

Weirdly I had this issue when I connected my iPod classic (formatted in Windows) to a Mac. If I recall, I stuck it into disc mode, formatted, then restored it and it was fine.

I could try it at my brothers house next time I'm there, see if it works when doing it on his PC.

The thing is, I can't even turn the Ipod on at all. The only time the screen will come on is when it's restoring. So, makes me think could be something broken on the ipod.

If I take it into Itunes, do I get a replacement?

I've just tried to restore again and I'm now getting a (9) error as you can see by the picture. I'm confused on whats wrong with the ipod.

Have you tried iFunBox? See if it connects? and have you tried manually restoring?

No it ain't showing up as you can see by the picture below. Did not know you could do that, I'll google it and give it ago.

It was saying this for about 5mins, then just got the 09 error again.

Yeah, I think your laptop/pc is mashed. Try it on another machine it should be fine I think.

I'll try it next time I'm at brothers house. If that don't work, I'll take it to Apple store and see what they say.

Is it still in warranty? Might just be worth taking it in..if they can'r repair it theyll just replace...or they should.

Yes it is, runs out in April 2012.
Think I'll just do that, I would not mind getting a replacement.

Definitely take it in. Save yourself some hassle and book an appointment first though. They will try to book one in store for you if you go in without an appointment, but you might have to come back later.

Chances are it's fine but needs some persuading which they'll know how to do.
