The Is My Turkey Going To Go Off Thread

bit late to freeze it now - if you saw link I posted in xmas thread people had issuers withwaitrose/aldi/tesco birds,
I'll open ours and give it an inspection on wednesday to check it looks fresh,
I don't believe they actually tell you when it was slaughtered though ......
none of them are free range this year - that's avian flu.

Cook it now, then freeze it just to be safe :P

it's probably some free range expensive turkey if it's in a box? it's probably fine... it's the mass produced store bought ones that could have been sitting in a truck for a week etc you have to worry about (probably)

in my experience most use by dates are utter crap....

I know with meat it's different and more high risk.. but you get vegetables that have useby dates of 2-3days time.... yet they sit in a cupboard or fridge for 1-2 weeks and still look exactly the same...

the whole system is either amazingly over pre cautious or is designed so people buy more than they would otherwise do.

maybe it assumes your shopping is sat in a 40c boot for 1-2hours and stuff like that

does food in hot countries have the same useby dates as good in cold countries? i'm guessing it will. there's probably a lot of extra head room in reality as long as you weren't messing about.

do you really think 1 day makes a massive different? suddenly something isn't safe because it 1 day over, my milk in the fridge because I Live alone is usually 2-3 days out of date but tastes exactly the same as a new bottle would
