So the game is set in America after it society has been destroyed by a fungal virus (based on a real thing called Cordyceps) and the cities have been overgrown and what little society is left is lawless and violent. You play Joel who has been tasked with escorting the Character of Ellie, a young teenage girl, from where, where to or why, we don't know yet but it will surely be revealed. The developers have said it will focus more on the human side of these events and that 'The Infected' will be rare and difficult to beat.
We can see from the E3 Demo that the AI is incredibly intelligent and we have been told there were multiple ways the player could have gone round that situation, even avoiding it completely through stealth.
