Bought Last Remnant from Steam and the game refuses to launch. I get the following error in the Event Log

Never had any issue with other games. Running W7 64 Bit, GTX580, Xonar D2X and tried on board sound. Tried the suggested removing OpenAL32 and wrap_oal. Tried different graphic card drivers. Running in compatibilty mode.

Anyone had this problem or could suggest a fix?

I have run out of idea's.

Found this on another forum:

The game will crash on initial start up if you have triple buffering. It's because there is conflict between the game in windows mode and D3D triple buffering. You can do the following:

1. Change window mode to full screen mode in the RushEngine.ini
2. turn off triple buffering, go into the game, make it full screen, turn it back on.
3. play window mode without triple buffering.

Also you did run Steam as admin? restarted Steam too i guess?

Edit: Been reading more it seems Kaspersky could be locking some of the .dll files.

Another guy said this:

When I looked up the registry keys, I saw that the info contained, to delete, were related to my anti-virus software (Kaspersky). That didn't sit well with me so I searched for Kaspersky and Last Remnant and would up on this thread (http://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t143040.html) on the Kaspersky forums. SchuneiderMidas's post (10th post down) basically works the same way a aferraz7's fix, except it's easier to undo the deletion of the hooks that Kaspersky uses, because you're using the Autoruns.exe to turn the hooks off or on.

Ok here is the fix guys (temp fix anyway)

You do not have to disable KIS

1) Add your game folder (that has GG in it) to your exclusion list. For me it's the Full "AION" folder
2) DL Autorus program

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

3) Run "autoruns.exe" and select the "appinit" tab
4) Uncheck the sbhook.dll & sbhook64.dll (sandbox r3 hooks for VP)
5) Uncheck the (if you installed it) mzvkb3.dll (Mozilla Virtual Keyboard)
6) Reboot your system and now you can play with out any GG crashes
Hope that helps some of you

Anyways, it seems that those of us who saw the TLR.exe show up on the Task Manager, just for it to quit, the problem is most likely something related to our anti-virus software interfering with the game's ability to launch.

You my friend are an absolute star!!

I had tried most of the above apart from

3) Run "autoruns.exe" and select the "appinit" tab
4) Uncheck the sbhook.dll & sbhook64.dll (sandbox r3 hooks for VP)

This did the trick. It is now working

I really appreciate your help with this, many many thanks. :)

Glad you got it working, it's worth it for such a great game but give it time....the game takes 4 hours or so to start getting good as the start you think "this game is way too easy :p" then you get hammered by some bosses later on lol.(gates of hell most annoying boss in the game probably you will see :D )

I have been looking at this game for ages and thought it different enough to give it a try. Just arrived in the first city and to be honest I don't have a clue what I was doing in the battles. Really like the feel of the game so hopefully I will start to pickup what all the moves actually do and when to use certain moves.

Thanks again for all your help mate :)

Check the Last Remnant on Wiki very useful info/guide there...also i suggest playing it with one so you can unlock the Ancient Ruins which i never got to do. :( (it has a lot of stuff in it and very useful items plus tough bosses)

Battles are complicated at first but you start to understand them more later when you got more members, you can have upto 30 with 5 in each regiment.(each of these can have different formations giving different bonuses depending on what classes are in the group like if you got all spellcasters then you go with the mystic formations for more effectiveness in battles.)

When a char asks for an item too always give them it so they make good weapons later.:)

By the way there's 8 versions of the last boss.....the toughest one is extremely hard i hear. :p

Thanks for the heads up. I will take myself over to Wiki and have a look.

When you mean one do you mean a character called one or just soloing it?

No i mean the toughest version of him is extremely tough.....it depends what you do in the game what version you get afaik if you get everything that's how you unlock the toughest version i might be wrong a bit.

There's also rare bosses aswell that spawn on maps you will probably encounter some and you know they are rare when there name appears in green writing.

That and when a ****ing wasp wipes you out the first time you get to an open plains map... the rare monsters can be tough as hell to beat but they're well worth the effort. It sucks when they can deadlock your entire army and you really need a little extra morale

Absolutely fantastic game, though - one of the best RPGs I've ever played. I'd hand over a kidney for a worthy sequal.

Yeah it is really good, stupid missleading metascore due to a buggy xbox360 version puts people off and any rpg fan should have got it for £5 in sale this week.

I want to play through it again to get everything but too much games at the moment lol.I hated that big black dragon near some ruins on something that you fought at lv15-20 or so.....took loads of tries.

Amazing game. Probably sunk 100+ hours into it. My only advice is to check the wiki before entering the Aquaducts (you'll know when you get there). You can miss out on a lot of content if you don't.

Really enjoying the game however I seem to die a lot, LOL.

I generally use Mystic but did read that standard attacks are better due to bonuses?

Also what's the deal with drops? It looks like there are some ingrediants, can I make potions? Do I need to share with the toons in the group?

I know I should go reading the wiki but are there any quick tips?

I don't have much time due to work so I generally learn while playing but this seams easy but I'm assuming there is more depth?

Appreciate any input :)
