Well, I say 'little'....maybe compared with the Saturn V....

Saw this on another forum. Amazing how much power and reliability you can get out of a jury rig!

I call this one the "lump", lovingly, because sometimes the weirdest stuff happens ?

This Engine came about as a piece together, of whatever we could find, repair, or scrounge together, to get a hardcore Racer back up and running?

When we built it, I didn't think it would make a Season, or, in my wildest dreams hang together long enough to Win 2 Div 6 Championships ?

Long Story here....
A Racer Guy I know, blew up his Engine back in Fall 2003....
Up until that point, I had never built him an Engine, because, He had a Sponsorship from another Shop who extended Credit(something I'll NEVER do), and he found himself up to eyeballs still paying off the blown up Engine, and they had refused to extend him anymore Credit for the repair until the Bill was paid....
So,
he trots into my Shop one day, and proceeds with his Sob Story....
long Story short....
he had "some" Money, not lots, and a bunch of "used up" parts from prior Engines he had Blown up. The Guy was FAMOUS for grenading his junk regularily....

I musta been a sucker in those days......oh well....he was a good talker....
* So we welded a chunk back in the side of his MP Mega-Block(cast iron), right through the Cross Bolt on ther #4 main, which did weird stuff when we torqued the cap up during Align Honing....
* Then Bored and Honed for some new pistons I gave him at cost...
* He had a 4.15" Stroke Crank, that had been welded and reground back to std at some point in it's history...
* I got him 3 Eagle Rods, and we farted around to match up a Balance Job to his 5 remaining Carrillo's(resized & rebushed)
* His INDY Heads were "rough", 1 wasn't repairable, so we found a donor single casting, re-ported Both, new guides, etc., etc., added a set of Valves 2.25" Intakes (from the 2.19).
and,
PRESTO......we had a 528 inch......that I was scared wasn't gonna make it off the dyno ?
But it did....

One thing was for sure....
I would NOT let it back in my Shop for freshening !
THAT,
I made perfectly clear, with instructions to Dufus to "SELL IT if it makes a Season !"
Be Damned if the "lump" didn't go 2 seasons, and half-way through the 3rd, before finally spinning a bearing "softly" after 400 runs(at least it diodn't go BOOM as this guy was famous for..., just squeaked in the Pits prior to next round).

Welded MP Block
Welded MP 4.15 crank
3 eagle Rods
5 Carrillo Rods
JE Pistons/13.8:1/ C-14 Fuel
Comp Roller Cam
INDY 440-1 Heads/2.25 valves(Heavily Ported by me)
INDY Tunnel ram W/Twin Dominators
Jesel Belt drive

We STOPPED at 7,000rpm on the Dyno.
It was still climbing, but that was enough for me.....didn't feel like wearing it.....

ladies and gentleman....the "LUMP"

Welded up block and crank, mixed con-rods, one repaired head and one used, both worked as far as you can sensibly go and then a little bit further, lots of compression, and two big carbs pouring 114 MON fuel in. Just the kind of engine that you expect to lunch itself the first time the car launches at the drag strip....and yet it didn't
