I love playing The Long Dark. I really didn't think i would when i started, but i follow the advice and reviews and just kept playing survival until i could get past the first couple of weeks, and then it just absorbed my whole life for a year. I've now done all the challenges, the single player campaign (what there is of it), and the DLC.

I also now play regularly on Interloper but am at the stage now where all play-throughs are becoming very same'y. Survive the opening 50 days, get the tools made, and then hunker down for the long mid-game.

Still i am drawn back to it, it's my go-to game.

For others like me, what else is there that is comparable? What else will hook me in like this? I've tried The Forest and Green Hell but neither have, what i can only describe at this point as, the magic of TLD.

TLD is a great, one of the best early access games I've tried.
Although still waiting for episode 5, to conclude the original story!

It's a bit like Subnautica - so orginal, yet nothing really competes.

I did wonder about trying Firewatch after TLD, but still never looked - currently only 4 quid on steam!

I played Firewatch long before TLD. It's an excellent single player story driven game, but the kind of thing you can really only play once, properly. A bit like an M. Night Shyamalan film. Once you've seen/done it, it isnt the same the second time around.
