Having played part way through Dreamfall and enjoying soo much, ive decided to stop playing and start from the beginning with The Longest Journey.

Anyone else played The Longest Journey?

Is it as good as Dreamfall? I hope so.

And why are these games not mentioned that often, they appear to be amazing yet somehow fall off everyones radar :(

They dont tend to be as popular as big FPS titles nowadays.

just bought dreamfall myself. Demo was good..just fancied something different

Actually tbh i'm trying to find out which genre i like best lol... (rpg, rts, fps, adventure or action adventure)

The Longest Journey (1st game) is the ultimate 3rd person view, point and click adventure game. Its nice and long abotu 40 hrs worth of play. Considered in the adventure gaming world as the absolute best adventure game ever.

Dreamfall we were mostly disapointed as they moved to crappy 3d etc. Story aint as long and not as much talking which is a shame from my view.

If you like adventure games defo play TLJ before Dreamfall. Other games to watch for are Gabriel Knight series.

sorry, but can you state an actual source for that or is it just your opinion?

I know people who took over 2 months to finish monkey island one and another 2 months for monkey island 2. IMO the Monkey island series have the best adventure games ever.

Not to mention:

Broken sword series
Sam and Max
Day of the tenticle
Syberia
and the list goes on.

personally, The Longest Journey is in the top thirf but no way 'the best'.

Most ppl would think its the best if you go to dedicated adventure game forums, like gameboomers or justadventure.

Its 50% my opinion its the best and 50% its generally thought of as the best point and click adventure game. Also its one of the most highly rated games on review sites.

Edit - Ok well usually its thought of the best game, but its 2nd here in gameboomers 2006 "annual game list". http://www.gameboomers.com/GameBoomersAnnualGamelist.htm

just played thru Dreamfall, i found it absolutely amazing. Its the first game i have completed and followed all the way thru since Metal Gear Solid 3.

I picked it up for 12 quid and its been the best bit of entertainment I had for a while. I really whole heartedly recommend it to anyone. Its a very good well told story with a selection of hammy voice acting.

I just want the next one to come out soon. It geniunely is the 4th game i have completed in about 8 years. I love games but rarely play story based and none of them keep me interested for more than 5-10 mins.

I played Dreamfall and since all i've done is ****** on about how good it was, and how it will be the future of popular games......eventually.

After finishing Dreamfall i went on a rampant search for the original us version of the longest journey. Never got around to finishing it because of commitments in the real world :( however what i did play I really really did enjoy. My gf said it was supurb, I wouldn't be surprised if they made a new Dreamfall era reamake of the longest journey simply because its such a good story

edit : Note, many people have gone on about how cinematic and interactive story'ish Dreamfall is......its how adventures should have been made forever. Fine i admit you watch a longish cut scene now and again, however in Dreamfall these cut scenes are used to create your sense of purpose and goal.

man, i am really lamenting over my "loss" i wish i could play it thru and erase the memory of it!

I loved all the cutscenes and the main reason i stuck with it out of the box is because of the atmosphere. I did say the voice acting was hammy but i loved it really... lol

On to broken sword 3 and 4 for me. I forgot how good story based adventures are

I agree 100%. I absoloutly LOVED dreamfall longest journey. I just popped into a games shop and it caught my eye. Im so glad i bought it. I loved every seconds. I actually couldnt wait to get home to play it lol. And its also the only game since metal gear solid / final fantasy 7/8/10 / Fahernheight (spelling?) right to the end.

Dreamfall for the WIN :d

Also the graphics in places are pretty awsome. Which was backed up by my brother walking in on me and saying woah look at them graphics lol

I wish developers would quit with episodic content -_-

Just bought Dreamfall again, picked up the le for £25 which comes with The Longest Journey, music cd and an art book. Nice packageing as well.

I just got the dreamfall only case, I want that one!! I actually want to play thru the first adventure. Pleased to hear about a sequal but not about the episode content!

I love Dreamfall. The only thing that bugged me, was that the save games are in the installation directory of the game. I kept forgetting this when I re-imaged my gaming partition. So when I reinstalled Dreamfall, I would have to start from scratch every time.

I haven't installed the game yet as I only re-imaged about 2 weeks ago. Installing as we speak. Only this time I can continue to play from where I left off. Its also one of the few games that's really good to play on a joypad too.

Sequal to dreamfall is gona be made, duno when tho. Will be episode format like sam and max i imagine.

I certainly don't mind the episodic format, as long as it doesn't lead to dilution of the game (in other words I want a true Dreamfall sequel but I don't mind if it arrives in bits).

I seriously hope that this 'MMO' part is a spin-off though, because I have absolutely no interest in any MMO ever & if that were the Dreamfall sequel I would be gutted beyond words.

After reading this thread i just orded TLJ new for £4.85 inc postage :D
looking forward to the game,i used to like monkey island e.t.c on the amiga so should love this.
come to think of it monkey island was the second game i stuck with and completed in my gaming career.

cheers.

I also got hold grim fandango to play thru properly....

I miss dreamfall though :( i wan to play it as a n00b again

I might start a "dreamfall discussion with spoiler threads" Just so we could conspire on the games sub plots and all that nonsense

mm just got hold of TLJ but the screen res is way to bad for me so think i'll go for dream fall > at what res does this run at please ?

thx

Sorry to dig this up but just FYI, both The Longest Journey and Dreamfall are available on Steam as a package. Works out as $32.84 all in.

Thanks to this thread, I've just purchased the package and will be playing the original before I start on the later one!!

edit: sorry if this is old news!
