Hi Peeps,

So I put my pc in the loot to see if I get any responses..

I did :)

Tell me what you make of this:

buyer states he will send me a cheque for the sum of my machine plus extra funds which I am to hand over to his nominated forwarder...

I sold my pc for £700 he sent me a cheque for £2880 which I banked yesterday and the remaining 2180 has to be handed to his nominated forwarder when they collect for shipping fees to spain from uk...

As long as the funds clear and I take my money I dont really care about the rest...

What are you thinking?

Don't get involved, and don't be a proxy for money transfers - at least not for free, anyway. :p

I thinking that I don't know what 'the loot' is? Is it a classified ads paper?

Also I would be vary wary as it sounds like either a scam or that he's using you to launder money for him unwittingly.

edit: It sounds like the man below speaketh the truth

Scam. The entire cheque will bounce once you've passed the £2180 on.

No, it won't help if you withdraw the £700 before it bounces, then you'll just be overdrawn as well.

You're being robbed.

Ask him for a pic with a loaf of bread on his head.

aparently a cheque can clear, appear in your account and then cancelled a few weeks down the line - that's what i've heard anyway :)

Indeed. 4 days is only the initial clearing period. It can bounce weeks or months later when the full checks get completed.

That you're an idiot.

My thoughts too. Don't send anything, re-advertise your PC because you haven't sold it. Some people really need to recognise a scam cos you're one step away from losing a lot of cash!

That Care in the Community is not working.

Why would you even stop to think for one micro second that someone is going to give you free money?

I don't think he does think he's getting free money. He's selling his PC for £700. Job done. He thinks he is also doing someone a favour by passing on £2180 for them.

As it is, he will lose £2180 and a PC.

This is a very very well known scam, usually done on places like auto trader with cars. I'm really surprised people still fall for it.
