The Lynnfield Preview: Rumblings of Revenge (Anandtech)

Cheers man, was an interesting read.

Conclusion I'm reaching at the moment is to stick with c2q until it's more obvious where the market is going.

Considering the current benefits going from a good C2Q system to an i7 one are mainly synthetic, it's definitely worth waiting. Six core Nehalem early 2010 is probably where my money's at, although most likely not at release.

This is what I've been waiting for before buying into Nehalem. It's not so much the CPU prices that bother me... more that I refuse to pay £160+ for a motherboard that doesn't even have a memory controller on it.

seems to me like intel are being a bit short sighted if they are releasing a chipset to be axed within 6 months, why not just release lga1156B.

Also, do you think games will benifit from i5's new pcie layout, it not having the northbridge between the gpu and system memory?

The big thing about 1156B is the ability to run cpus' with integrated GPU's. Well thats all well and good, but has anyone actually said that the 1156's wont be able to run 32nm higher clocked chips without the intergrated GPU's.

I wouldnt be to worried about an LGA 1156 becoming obsolete any faster than any other motherboard. Especially for midrange to performance categories where an integrated GPU is of little interest.

Also if you look up LGA 1156B, virtually all of the links are quoting the same source, Fudzilla. Thats not much better than the inquirer :P

It wouldnt surprise me if in 2010 you would be able to get an LGA 1156B with a dvi or vga port on the motherboard, or an LGA 1156 without the integrated graphics.

Since I've been into computers, I've yet to buy a motherboard with integrated graphics, and dont see any reason to start now. As long as LGA1156 can support 32nm quads, then honestly I dont care if it cant support 32nm dual + GPU chips.
