** The MacWorld Expo 2008 Discussion Thread **

I hope Apple release an ultra-portable notebook as I've been waiting for some time to see what they can produce after rumours started last year. The only barrier for me would be the price if Apple decide to put it between the MacBook and MacBook Pro.

It's the new iFresh- a USB air freshener that comes with 3 fetching fragrances:

Apple Blossom- self-explanatory

Mac Clean- that plastic, "new toy" smell when you open a new product for the first time

Jobs- smells like money

Actually, I got all giddy then and thought it was going to be a new range of WiFi peripherals for the range but it's probably something to do with iPhone/iTunes/Apple TV downloads/streaming.

Something in the air... pretty intriguing. Nothing jumps out as being obvious. What other wifi/portable device could they introduce that isn't the iPhone. PDA? Ultra Portable? Seems a strange tag-line for something physical. Maybe they're offering free wifi to Mac owners. :p

It has to be the iTunes movies.. streaming to an iPod/iPhone?

Give me a cup of Kool Aid, I'm ready to go :D

Theres lots of talk about the macbook pros having a new design. What does everyone think?

Personally id be happy with just the cpu being updated, as i like the design as it is really.

Do apple generally bump up the prices after new stuff is released?

The thing is with the Macbook design is that it has been around a while now. when it first appeared it was like nothing seen before, now that some of the other manufacturers are catching up a bit i expect that apple would like to bring the wow factor back into the design.
That said however, i still think that the mbp is still the best looking lappy out there.;)
As for price, think they are pretty good at keeping the prices the same...ish

I could possibly see the MBP adding the option of a brushed graphite option but can't really see the design changing much more than that, as it's still a very sleek laptop and unrivaled for design.

They tend to lower the prices on new models, going on past trends (iMacs, Mac Pro).

Although if they do release something that's not priced lower it's almost the same price.

It's rare to see a new product priced over it's replacement.

Really hope they announce some nice new features for the iPhone in the latest firmware update

More likely is that they will announce some nice new features for the iPhone in a revised model :(

"Something in the air". I can picture it now. Steve Jobs walks out on stage and says "Good morning. Pull my finger!"

My predictions are:

Wireless headphones/docking for iPod (unlikely though)
New Cinema displays with iSight
Macbook Pro redesign and MacBook nano added (with WiMAX or some sort of GPRS thing)
Possibly something Bluray related?
New Apple TV with above + video rental
iTunes 7.6

probably something entirely different but you never know!

I agree, MacBook Pro is basically the same as the PowerBook which hasn't really changed since 2005ish?

I never wanted an AppleTV before, but if they're going to implement iTunes downloads direct to the AppleTV, and if they bump the specs I'd be all over it :)

I can definately see movie rentals direct to the AppleTV taking off.

I think the "Something in the air" could be a way of saying how green Apple is planning to go.. something in the air referring to the nasty toxins that are currently a big part of much of their products*

*Based on that they'll introduce LED backlight Cinema Displays

It definitley sound's like it could be to do with something Wireless

Although I never thought about it being to do with what EVH mentioned, that's a strong possibility :)

I completely agree with EVH about the link between AppleTV and movie rentals. Even my iPod can connect directly to the store now so its a no-brainer.

Every time I consider an AppleTV I always end up specing a Mac Mini. Basically they need to cut the server out of the loop. Having to turn a computer on to watch TV is only going to appeal to geeks.*

*I understand that the AppleTV internal drive is only a cache, and that media is streamed from another computer on the network. Correct?
