I've been using Vista for a week now and I must say it's very good, very smooth and ompatible with virtually all my daily used applications.

However, below are a list of some annoyances I have to wait to be fixed, the first annoyance is a long term annoyance however and I cannot believe MS have not fixed this yet out of the box. I do not wish to wipe the BAGSMRU every time to fix this

1: Folder custom views to not stay for some folders (random folders lose their view settings randomly) AGAIN. Had this issue in XP and am having this issue in Vista too.

2: Quicktime (Official and ALT) has decoding issues in Vista, Some of the more Quicktime component heavy site on the Quicktime trailer site for example crash the browser with a .QTX component causing this. Quicktime website asks for "feedback" from Vista users...heh

3: DiVX codec has issues rendering in WMP in Vista, either WMP loads it after a few seconds or does not load it at all with a "COM SURROGATE" error triggered by dllhost.exe - this ONLY happens when DiVX videos are loaded in WMP, MPC etc all work perfectly. - NOW FIXED YAY! (NERO Update was required!)

So that's my awesome list of known observed and tested bugs in Vista (32bit) - anyone have their buglist ?

Oh here's a quick video of something I was not able to do in XP (just a proof of concept type test messing around) - Quite happy with Vista ability to be stable even with that much going on!

That does annoy me too! With XP that is!

why would you want to do that with so many videos?

Just to see if it can be done!

Isn't this because Windows only stores the settings for a set number of folders? I had this problem with XP a few years ago before I installed SP2 but a simple registry change sorted my problems.

I know you can change in xp (which was what I did :p) but I don't know if the same applies to Vista ?

I've also found the enhanced hard drive performance setting...

To me, that kind of speed difference wouldn't really be worth increasing the risk of data loss if you have a power cut.

Although with a UPS it'd be nice :)

Does it really mean data loss though if the power goes out? I always wondered as it could just be the wording used as a safeguard to protect their backs ?

1 and 3 are definitely niggling me.

I'm having trouble getting my webcam (Creative Optia) recognised. It did kinda work before I installed the driver, but haven't been able to revert since.

Centralised mic selection is also an annoyance, since I don't necessarily want to use my recording mic for IM.

Taking the capture function out of Windows Movie Maker really annoys me, I'd become reliant on that for recording guitar riffing that I didn't want to forget.

Disappointing that multiple monitor support doesn't seem to have progressed...and nVidia haven't released nView for Vista yet. Ultramon to the rescue :D

There probably is a bit more of a chance that you would loose data, but nah, I doubt it increases your risk much at all.

if you right click on a file/folder too quickly in explorer, you don't get the proper context menu for what you are clicking. so you have to slow down. select a file, wait and then right click..... tis my main annoyance at the moment. :)

I get that too heh but I don't really find it an issue! just the first time round it was a bit "THIS AIN'T STANDARD ISSUE??" :o

I would read this thread urgently: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17720717

 - That looks like more an issue for RAID users though.

I have 1x SATAII 7200.10 16MB 250GB windows drive and likewise but 350GB for my documents and backups (not used for enhanced mode)

Non-RAID is even worse when using this feature... :/

Have you ever seen a proper RAID controller which has a stick of SDRAM plugged into it and that stick of SDRAM has a Lithium-Ion battery strapped to the side of it? This feature is intended for those types of servers, not average joe desktops with comparatively mickey-mouse RAID controllers ;)

Simple solution: don't use it. DivX isn't compatible - it's been causing this problem since the Vista Betas.

FFDShow doesn't have any issues decoding DivX.

I am using FFDSHOW at the moment but I need the divx codec to be installed so I can encode to divx!

Using something called DirectShow Filter Manager you can change the priorities of the filters. So you should be able to install the DivX Codec but still let FFDShow have priority - so it can still be used for encoding, but isn't used for decoding (which is what causes the problem, iirc).

Or you could wait for DivX to finally pull their finger out and make a compatible version!

Are items 2 & 3 actually VISTA bugs or software bugs in VISTA?

Don't blame the OS if it's not the cause.
