The title isn't very helpful I know. I'm hoping for details about what conforming to this form factor actually means.

I think each screw hole is in the same place on every matx board, and that they're probably the same width and depth whichever board you go with. Is there more information contained within the form factor? For example, will the pci slots always be the same distance from the bottom of the board, the southbridge always be in the same location and so on.

Is it perhaps chipset dependent? x58 with 6 RAM slots is surely laid out slightly differently to G45.

I ask for the reason that I'm considering manufacturing a computer case, and would prefer it to survive many builds. I currently have a G35 mATX board which would move into it, but that isn't going to be with me forever.

A useful link would be every bit as appreciated as any information.

In the same way ATX must fit a set standard, so must MATX. The holes don't need to be in set places afaik (hence cases have a LOAD of points) but I think that 99% of manufacturers use a set few. The PCI slots are fixed, and though chipsets can be wherever the manufacturer puts them, next to and above the PCI slots will again be where 99% end up, with RAM in the top right and the CPU top left.

Base it on your current board and it won't be far wrong :)

Shuttle seemed to have developed there own form factor, into which I cannot find any other motherboard to fit :( (SN45G2 chasis with dead mobo)
