I was lead to believe that the E2180 was just as good at overclocking as the rest of the E21** range.

If i had the chip i would be dissapointed with anything under 3.5ghz, I would aim for 3.6 to 3.8 with a good cooler, anything above probably would have to be on water.

People have got 100% overclocks on the E2140/60 so can't see why the E2180 would be any different.

I cant see it running at 3.6ghz or more but i think i may have a go at getting 3.5.

Why not 4GHz - it's only 400FSB so the motherboard isn't going to be breaking a sweat and the low FSB/high multiplier means you should be able to do good things with lower volts than a Q6600 would need.

You already have a very good overclock so anything else would be a bonus.

How did you get your Geil ULL 6400 to work with a P5E? Mine refused to do anything until i replaced it with Crucial Ballistix PC8500. It would'nt even load the OS.

I must just be lucky, i clipped them in and away i went :D

Are you sure it would be able to do that, if so what kind of temps would i be getting?

If the temps are fairly high i would add a tuniq tower in with my upgrade during january :)

:edit:

I wont be able to try the OC till monday (my last day currently staying in Tenerife :() and i may also need some help keeping my system stable on the forums :)

Can someone also link me to the version of coretemp that works in 64-bit vista

I thought I'd try - I can easily get into windows at 3.7GHz with 1.475V on. At 1.6V/400FSB/4GHz I could get my system to boot, but it won't boot into Windows.

Now, I've just got this CPU and the AS5 isn't set up yet, but I'm idling at 33C on each core and hitting 60C under load with 1.475V at 3.7GHz. It's priming now, and I am using good custom water cooling and what I consider to be one of the best P35 motherboards - the Rev 1.0 Gigabyte P35-DS4.

Last time i checked i was running at about 24'C idle and around 50'C when stressed, i will have another look when i can. If i find that temps or my RAM is holding me back i'll ad some more goodies to my upgrade basket.

Currently it contains:
