Season 5 finished on Sunday, and we were given a list of 7 names who Jane suspects as being Red John

  • Bret Stiles
  • Gale Bertram
  • Ray Haffner
  • Reede Smith
  • Robert Kirkland
  • Thomas McAllister
  • Brett Partridge

Anybody else watched up to season 5?

Red John's going to be dead of old age by the time Patrick catches him, that or i will be. Yet another season ends with disappointment, they should have moved on 2 or 3 seasons ago.

Yes, I was kind of hoping they wouldn't renew it for a new season just so we could find out who he is.

Although in the video in the end RJ did say that he would be killing more in the future, so hopefully season 6 will have more Red John episodes rather than just ones with a typical murder that has nothing to do with the story.

It's somewhat disheartening to know whilst midway through Season 3, that there is at least 2 full seasons (and probably all of season 6 too) yet to watch before he finds out who it is.

It's one thing that frustrates me, as it almost always gets dragged out to the point where people have stopped really caring and then is generally underwhelming anyway.

They should have fixed it with Bradley Whitford playing the role, it was awesome having a heavyweight like him pop up as the bad guy.

Wouldn't have hurt for things to fall into the standard procedural routine after that.

Anybody been watching Season 6? Saw episode 6 last night. The whole season has been REALLY good IMO.

For those not aware each episode has been focusing on each of the Red John suspects

Agreed, Mentalist is one of my many favourite shows, tbh I love the length of the RJ story arc, right up there with psych and elementary.

There might not be an episode this weekend. Apparently last Sunday's didn't air in most places in the US because of the NFL.

curse Bruno Heller

they have all started bloody whistling now!!

though I dont think its bertram or the sheriff as he is not as the decapitated shrinks dictaphone described

though my current theory is they are ALL red John and take turns and some mastermind is bumping them off now

Catching Red John is getting old now.
I find myself struggling to watch any more.

If they try to stretch the Red John story it into a seventh season they will loose many viewers and will probably get canned.

The viewing figures are going south on this show.
Hence the last episode ending in a cliff hanger in an attempt to get the figures up.

Stopped watching this ages ago, after there was the supposed Red John confrontation, and Patrick killed him, which I thought was pretty great, and then the next season started and they just said 'oh, that wasn't him!'....bored

Seriously Red John is the BOSS
.

Hope they don't ruin it, story is very strong at the moment.
Seems to early in the season though for this.

Haven't watched the new ep yet but as with others. The Red John thing got boring a hell of a long time ago. There is only so much Red John is the smartest man in the universe ever and can do absolutely anything he wants at any time before it becomes a complete joke. Should have had Josh from West wing lead straight into identifying Red John then spending a season or two max actually tracking down a known target. What they've done instead is made the show a bit poo.

Too often these shows have a major premise, but they take the major story arc to be the only possible story arc and stretch it. Could have caught Red john 4 years ago, and I dunno, had a new story line :o

Taking down the corrupt officials would have been good, you can't just have one guy be so utterly invisible for so long then have him caught. It's getting into Lost territory of ridiculousness in how they go from one stage to the next.

What they missed, why the show was good was it was a good detective show with an underlying arc, but the detective show part was the strength, not the red john story line. But they've focused the show on the latter, with ever weaker stories, ever weaker less involved cases.

Good cast, some great early seasons, but been a waste of time for 2 + years.
