Well, it seems that meta are rolling out enough borkdates for them to get a thread of their own.

The latest has been numerous reports of an update, probably V72 stalling at the updating chip logo, attempting to restart with the meta logo and then shutting down completely.
The headset then becomes totally unresponsive to any button presses, and now is unable to be charged as there's also no indication from any of the LEDs on the headset.

Honestly I do wonder why Meta seems to be hit and miss in things like these these. I had to contact their support yesterday, I was online chatting to a person within a few minutes and had my issue resolved within 15 minutes.

Unfortunately the whole concept seems a little flawed. VR is mostly an enthusiast hobby. If you make it cheap enough for every man and his dog to get little jonny a VR for christmas, it's just got to work 100% all of the time. link/airlink are just not that reliable. I would guess that we've all had issues with it at some time or other.
It needs to be way more robust and plug and play. Most people do not have the time or inclination to be diagnosing connection issues.

Another update making controllers only working in the menu and not in games.

I checked my lads. It’s on 71 and says 72 ready to install. I’ve disabled auto update once I saw that. So think I was lucky.

Still says it will install from Jan 18th currently.

Depending of what games he plays or social features he uses, you could turn the headset wifi off/forget so there's no chance of an untimely death until a fix is kicked out.

Is this a wide spread issue. Not really seeing much about it? Is there a forum of complainers?

The Oculus/meta forum used to be a place foe VR enthusiasts, now it's a place for kids that are locked out of facebook and don't know how to start their VR. You have to sort through the chaff to find borkdate trends.

Latest update to the mobile app renders the original Quest unsetupable, as the safety video stalls and doesn't allow any further setup process.
