Theres an excellent documentary on youtube about why that happened in the first place. Basically due to their tv station owner buying their rival wrestling company out and throwing millions of dollars at it. Because the WWF at the time couldn't throw anywhere as much money at it, plus wanted to avoid a wrestling tax, they defined what they do simply as entertainment.
