The new Bebo

MSN messenger used to be massive... Where is it now?

OK, parts of it live on in other places, but still, 10 years ago, I wouldn't have expected it to be dead today...

Something could come out and break Facebook in a similar way....

This.

Facebook is now the be all and end all. They won't risk it with stupid strategies.

Facebook is bound to die, every social media site does, and Facebook is far from perfect. At some point, someone will come along with something better and people will start to move over. That or they will make some horrendous decision and people will leave. Privacy being one right now.

From what i've noticed, facebooks already on the downhill, been on it for a while. This privacy thing only gonna make it worse.

Precisely. Everything reaches critical mass and FB wil eventually try too hard to take advanatge of its users.

Remember, it's only free because the FB user is the product. If they exploit peoples' private lives too much they will screw up. At the moment they're ratcheting up the stranglehold over users more and more. Timeline was bad enough: an attempt to get information about all the important and major events of everyones' lives. And now they're making it impossible for people to be as private as they want. Greed and utilitarianism will be their downfall. It's not like they're irreplaceable.

The sooner ALL 'Social media' dies a death the better, it's time even stupid people start to realise that no one gives a flying **** about them or what they like and start valuing their privacy instead.

So did other services that went down the pan.

most students would likely find it easy to leave facebook for an alternative but most regular adult's wouldn't want to.

my whole family I know for a fact would stick with face book until it died.

I don't really care about facebook and my wall generally gets about 1 post a year.

all my family live in notts and I live in newcastle so only use it to see what they have been up to.

some people use facebook as their family album and likely have no copies anywhere on a hardrive.

does facebook allow you to batch download all your photos? if not that's bound to keep a hell of a lot of people active on there

Well, it all depends on what kind of friends you have. I don't get pictures in my feeds of people taking pictures of their dinner or 'partying' with friends. If I did have friends who'd upload pictures of their food while I'm out with them our friendship wouldn't last long.

All though I love facebook stalking people haha

That simply will never happen. Social media will be around in some incarnation or other for the foreseeable future. It will evolve as people want different things, but it's not going anywhere. It's funny how people dismiss social media without recognising that there are benefits to it as well.

Indeed, social media isn't all idiots uploading photos of their food. The tools are only as good or bad as their users.

Social media can be a fantastic source for raw footage of current events that don't make mainstream media, as well as informing people of things before the news channels get there.
