The New Cases Gallery

My Intel box.

I had to open it up today as this morning when I went to get some files, a drive was missing, turns out an IDE cable had died, so I figured I'd take some pics of it whist I had it open. :)

Nah, it's a unit my uni was chucking out, so I asked if I could have it. :)

It's a P4 @ 1.7GHz (I think I can clock it...)
384MB SD RAM
360GB HDD space
DVD DL RW
Running Windows Sever 2003 (could just use XP, but I want to learn a server edition)

It's my house's download box, handy little thing. :)

Chucking out?! That spec would be an upgrade for my uni. Still running P3s (some P2s I think too...) running Windows ME :o:(

The spec now stands at:

ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe mobo
Intel C2D E6600 Conroe, overclocked to 3Ghz
ASUS Silent Square Pro CPU cooler
Thermaltake Kandalf aluminium case
620W Corsair HX Series Modular SLi PSU
500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA2 16mb cache PRIMARY HDD
750GB Seagate Barracuda SATA2 32mb cache SECONDARY HDD
4GB 667mHz DDR2 RAM
SONY DVD Writer
Philips DVD Writer (Lightscribe)
Soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Gamer Pro Soundcard
XFX XXX 8800GTS Graphics card, MEGA overclocked at factory
Razer Lachesis gaming mouse 4000DPI
Logitech wireless keyboard
Logitech ClearChat Stereo Headset With Microphone and Inline Controls
Sony 19inch monitor
Sharkoon 12" Blue Cold Cathode neons 2in1 Kit & dual Inverter

2008 should bring a new mobo and CPU, and poss a new vid card.....

Just posted this in the P182 thread also, but my new case, cpu cooler and psu all turned up so spent the day building :)

some pics (click for bigger)

Some small, not so obvious tweeks, but a good few hours work ... Mobo I suspect had some dry joints that came to light installing memory a month or so back, and didn't cope with the transplant intact, so was swapped for a replacement but in BFG flavour.

The PSU was annoying me, it aint that loud, but as everything was geared for ultra low noise it was the loudest thing in the system.
So that was swapped out for a Corsair unit basically a Seasonic but with the 60mm fan removed for extra quietness.

Anyone want to buy a nice Enermax Galaxy 1000W modular ? ;)

Wondefully quiet now, but that did mean another cable routing session :o
While I was at it I tidyied the tubing a little as coming from the resovoir looked too wayward to me, I have to have some slack to slide the res forward for maintenance so I decided pipe clips would help tidy it up and I could just unhook the tube when I need to slide the res forward :)

Is there only one way to mount that ?
You would be better off with the fan blowing to the rear case exhaust if possible, takes the heat straight out :)

The PSU fan does a nice job of moving the heat :D I'm not too sure tbh my 2900 may be in the way if it's mounted vertically.

/Gets the tape measure out :p
