The new iMac - Speculation?!?

Since the MacBook Pro's have been updated with the new Santa Rosa chipset and the 8600GT, I think the same will apply to the new iMac due next week.

Websites are saying a new design and even say they will drop the white look for a metal look (like the Pro's).

This has made me think, and I think the new iMac's will actually be just like their current 23 and 30 inch displays?



The old iMac was like the current displays already (same style, shape), but I believe they will copy the displays and build in the computer specs into it!

Maybe to help professionals use one/two displays without the need for a boxed computer? Putting them together? A iMac and a display?

Good idea, if I'm right? I would find it hard to replace/better the current iMac shape, but doing this would be amazing.

What do you guys think?

Well that isn't true is it, the G3 iMacs were CRT.

I see what PAC2006 is saying, it would be nice for them to drop the gloss white plastic in favour of the studio/cinema display style look from the latest generation apple LCDs. Infact the one thing I'd like is to be able to use the iMac as a monitor for other PCs/Macs that way I could have both on one desk.

I think what he means is that he supposes that the new models will lose the white band at the bottom and take on a metal shell so that they look just like Apple's cinema displays, just with a whole computer inside.

Also, technically speaking, iMacs used to have CRT screens. Now I'm just being pedantic. :p

I must say that I had not seen that website before, but it certainly backs up my idea of what they may be doing?

Thats a really nice design too!

Just imagine a 24" model of that artist impression! :eek:

Doubt it - thats been around for well in excess of 2 years now. IIRC that was based on a g5 tower, not the mac pro.
