Hi,

My parents went into an Apple shop on Sunday and asked for the new iPad for a Christmas present for my sister.

I have just checked the box and it is a iPad 2! They are certain they asked for the new iPad.

Is it just a case of going back to the Apple Shop and asking them to swap it while paying the additional £70 to get the new iPad?

I can't believe how this happened, I asked them to wait for me to be with them but these thing happen.

Thanks in advance.

Yep - Just a straight swap

All products have a 14 day no questions asked return anyway, so you're sound as 70 pound :p

There is always something else eh.....

Turns out the guy in the Apple shop said the only difference between an iPad 2 and the new one was the Retina Display. So my folks got the iPad 2.

I'm not happy about this as it is not the only difference and why sell a product which is going to be out-of-date by next spring? (assuming they release an iPad3/4/5)

I've told them the differences are much bigger than the screen (which is a big step up alone) and should get the new iPad....seemingly feel it is falling on deaf ears.

Old people + tech = disaster.

Rant over. Sorry.

Sounds like the guy would be more suited working for the purple shirt people than the apple boys.

Or, and here's the thing, your parents quite likely asked for 'an ipad', were asked by the employee what it would be used for, and they said 'oh... facebook and stuff, i dunno' and the employee probably gave them the options and they picked.

He wouldn't have downsold them just for a laugh - something they said probably led him to suggest it and they went with it.

Doesn't matter anyway, they can swap it.

To be honest I would imagine the screen is the only tangible difference for casual users who just browse the web. So a useful saving.

The iPad 3/4 is thicker and heavier too, so to some this might even be a plus point for the iPad 2.

Why not take it back and get an iPad mini? Same hardware, but in a far lighter package, the display isn't that much smaller, and it will receive support for longer (and already has more hardware features), all for £60 less?
