Hi Guys,

With all these new job threads that have been poping up at the moment, i got me thinking about what happens when you switch jobs and the order of process. So how does it go...

1) Job offered.
2) Receive new contract to read and accept.
3) Accept in writing the job offer along with signed copy of contract.
4) Hand in notice at current job.
5) Watch current employer get very upset that you are leaving.
6) Watch current company fall down the pan.
7) Jump ship and swim to luxury yacht with dancing girls.

Oh, whats the deal with holiday that you havent taken, of if you have taken more than half of your holiday and there is still half of the company year to go?

normally you get money instead of your holiday e.g if you have 4 days holiday still to take you would get paid an extra 4 days if you didnt take them (i think)

Between steps 4 and 5...
Employer offers you more money/different role in an attempt to get you to stay and you can throw it back in their face while laughing!

As for holiday, when I left my last job I'd taken more holiday than I'd earned for the year so I just got slightly less in my final pay packet.
If you hadn't taken all your holiday you'd just get more pay.

That's pretty much it. Sometimes it is a little different the more senior you are. For example you can have long notice periods that you have to negotiate your way out of, or if you're moving to a competitor you may be put on gardening leave for fear of you taking all the company's secrets to the opposition.

Holiday is normally always adjusted either way in your final pay packet.

Usually holidays are accrued pro rata, like for my place of work 28 days over 12 months, It's now 6 months into the holiday year (50%) and i've only taken 33% of my holidays, so when I leave my job in a weeks time I will get about 17% of my holidays back, plus apprently when i started working i worked 2 weeks in hand so i'll get 2 extra weeks pay, so if all goes according to plan end of october I will get a full months pay from my current job and 3 weeks from my new job :D
