Hello Everyone,

Got the new Nano which is great but... there's a volume issue. It's maximum volume is less than my last 2GB Nano, I've seen the capping feature but this is at full, is there anyway to unlock this as you're aware different tracks can have different levels of output.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

D

Its the EU health and safety thing for the volume cap, there are ways around it.

2 ways of doing this

1 - Use the line out at the bottom and run an external amp
2 - Flash a US firmware, but it requires you to be in the US as itunes detects where you are when you update it.

What a joke, the orginaly nano was the best because it would actually go louder, then they capped it and now again?

Why do we need baby sitting by the government

I got hold of The USA firmware a week or so ago, installed it but it still didnt uncap the volume, I think i have to set itunes to use a USA proxy for this to work, do I have to change any other windows settings?Anythingelse I need to do?thanks

The answer is above, its sold in the EU and the French are ******* so its got a Vol Cap (to stop damage to your ears) and if its a Creative Nano you can flash it to US FW and its fixed, if its a Ipod (still not verified) well there is that issue with crappy Itunes.

aye agree wholeheartedly what's wrong with the warning about damaging our ears then just letting us get on with it ffs
nanny state 4tL

I mean I have relatively intact ears but can whack up the ipod buds to pretty much full volume with heavy metal pouring into my ear drums, impossible on other players,
so now I will have to invest in some good in-ear jobbies to regain 15% volum I should imagine if you see what I mean...

Yeh I was living in Canada for a year in 2005 and bought an Apple iPOD 60g Photo thing, the gadget was AMAZING for how loud the volume went, I absolutly loved it and had a nice pair of matching in-ear headphones.

Sold it and eventually came home and got some SONY mp3 thing.. I thought it was broke when I put it at max volume it felt terrible, absolute ***** when its at max and you still hear other peoples conversations on the train to work. I still use it today :(

^ you shouldnt have sold the ipod you got in canada. Surely there is a way to un-cap the sound levels on all players? Either by using some software or opening it and turning a screw or something

My ipod shuffle 512mb 1st gen sounds so much better than my mates new 4gb nano. I hate to think the levels of the newest nano's if they are even lower

depending on which Sony Mp3 it is you can unlock the volume from the hidden service menu. I did it on my HD3, much better :)

You'll be doing yourself a favour, even the capped volume distorts and sounds crap on the stock headphones.

im just checking some software now... il post the links after i have used it, seems to be realy good from what im reading
;)

I don't know if this is still the case but with my 4th gen 20GB ipod the way i got round this was to go into iTunes, select all my music(ctrl a with all the tracks showing), right click, get info then the options tab and move the volume adjustment slider (i found around 80% right for me) then click ok. This worked with the first gen nano as well im not sure about anything newer though. Hope that helps.
