Hi all

just a couple of questions.

Q1 does a ips monitor have just as good blacks as a tft as i have a samsung 2443b monitor and was woundering if it would be better than this monitor.

Q2 does the new hp screen have any buzzing as my monitor has a littile bit of a tone comming from it and was hoping the hp did not do this.

cheers for any help as i am after a 3 monitor setup as i have looked at my friends dell u2711 and was not to impressed with it, dont get me wroung the monitor is nice but the problems i found was

1 the coating for the anti glare is way over the top make sit look all gliter and sparkles

2 the text is so small you have to have 20 20 vision to read it hence you need to increes the text size up to 125% from 100% which makes the desktop have less space and defeating the purpose of a 27" monitor

so looking to get 3 24" 1200 res monitors

Just to clarify - all modern LCD panels are TFT. IPS is not an alternative to TFT (they still use TFT backplanes), it is an alternative to the TN panel type. One of the advantages of an IPS panel is that the colour reproduction is enhanced by the use of native 8/10-bit per pixel colour support. Whilst this may not in itself mean that blacks are deeper (as this is a function of contrast), if you couple this with the superior viewing angles of an IPS panel you often get fairly pure and unshifting blacks. It does depend a bit on the backlight, however - IPS panels with LED backlighting (which would be preferable for deeper blacks) are few and far between. For the most part, blacks will be just as good if not superior on an IPS panel vs. TN panel with CCFL backlight.

As for the buzzing noise. I haven't used the panel in question, so I can't comment. The buzzing noise is usually associated with certain CCFL backlights and is far less common with low-energy LED backlights (it is the same kind of noise you might hear if you walk past certain generators).

Sorry if the jargon gets a bit overwhelming. Feel free to have a perusal of my website if you need anything clarified.

Sorry if this jargon gets a bit confusing

no thats ok thanks for the help its just i am after 3 24" 1200 res monitors and was going to go with the dell but i have seen he 27" and did not like the anti reflect coating it was way to much on the screen.

so looking at this new hp or nec model when it gets released.

thanks for the help

Oh what monitors would be betterthan my samsung 2443b , I know any ips should be better but was also woundering if there's a better tn panel.

I am trying to leave my options open as the samsug is a very good monitor it's just hard to get them and also would need to by an adapter to use it on a 3 monitor setup but I don't mind getting 3 different monitors

Well in my opinion, there are better TN panels out there than the 2433BW. However; the 1920x1200 resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio seems to be becoming a rarity these days. Unfortunately it does only now seem to be seen in more expensive IPA/PVA etc. panels and not so much on TN panels.

I take it you want to use the panels for photo editing type work rather than gaming (hence the desire for x1200+)?

If extreme colour accuracy and good viewing angles aren't essential then I think the 2433BW would be a very good panel for your needs. There is not really a better 24-inch TN panel out there with that resolution at the moment.

but i can not use 3 of them as i need a monitor with a displayport so what would you suggest a new hp ips would this be a better monitor thna the one i have better blacks ?

cheers
