Going to NY in May and am contemplating getting one of the New York Passes (3 day pass is currently $191) to go to Maddam Tussauds, TOTR, ESB, a cruise (potentially the speed boat), the Hop-on-Hop-Off tours, Intrepid, Ellis Island and maybe some other places

Anyone bought one of these before and is it reasonable to do all this on them over 3 days, was thinking of using the HOHO tour bus to travel to different places on the two days it allows, and just do food whenever.

We also have the afternoon/evening of our arrival day, a Sunday (was thinking of going to see the Mets play which can be done for about $18) and then the final day where we would need to be at the airport for about 4pm (so the 3 days would be days 2,3 and 4 of the 6 days we are there).

Also want to do the Brooklyn Bridge walk to get a picture of Manhattan from the other side.

Any thoughts ?

Do not underestimate the time it takes to get anywhere in NY, will definitely knock your plans out of whack. That is indeed a lot to cram in, you might struggle to get your money's worth out of the pass.

The hop on bus pass is good (check which route you want as there are a few), definitely get that, and use taxis for any route or location it doesn't cover.

TOTR is great, Intrepid demands a good few hours to properly soak it all up and read about everything if you're into aviation and space stuff.

Seems a lot to cram into 3 days. For example, I spent a good 4-5 hours on Intrepid alone!

I agree - Intrepid was superb - spent a good 4 hours there - even the kids loved it and they are usually bored after 30 mins!!!:D:D

Walk across Brooklyn bridge then back across Manhattan, that brings you near China Town iirc

and as stated above.....you will get far less done than you think in a day, partly because it takes a while to get places, and if like us, you'll forever be distracted by shops/sights/or interesting looking places

Cheers for the replies guys, we have worked out the following potential Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive 13:05
Hotel at 16.00
Visit Times Square and have some food before heading to the hotel to get an earlyish night

Day 2
Breakfast
NYC Cruise at 10am which is 2 and a half hours and circles Manhattan
Then visit the Intrepid museum from say 1pm to 5pm
Have some food then do an evening trip to TOTR (we are thinking of going up there at about 7.30pm to get the sunset and evening)

Individually paid would be $99 per person

Day 3
Breakfast
Madison Square Gardens Tour
Jump on the HOHO to Battery Park
Ellis island / Statue of Liberty - not bothered about going up SoL
Either Water Taxi to Pier 79 or jump back on HOHO to complete the loop back to the hotel
Dinner

Individually paid would be $141 per person (if we did the water taxi back instead of HOHO)

Day 4
Breakfast
Madam Tussaud's
Macys
Lunch
HOHO to Brooklyn
Brooklyn Bridge
Grimaldi's for Dinner
Brooklyn Bridge Night Pic
Taxi to hotel

Individually paid would be $37 per person

Day 5
Breakfast
Lazy Sunday Morning - maybe do an early trip up ESB
Baseball 1pm - 6pm (ish)
Dinner somewhere

Individually paid would be $34 per person

Day 6
Breakfast
Final shopping etc
Leave hotel / Taxi to be at JFK 4pm

This is $311 for all the paid for trips - with the Pass being $191 dollars if bought in the next 3 days saving over $100 per person. It seems like a lot but there are just the two of us adults so we can be disciplined, the only thing is we haven't really left much time for any lunches etc, so those would have to be grabbed on the go, but we have generally left enough time for a good evening meal.

Any further comments much appreciated.

I found getting about reasonably quick when you want to get somewhere for a specific time etc. But you tend to waste hours just wandering about as there's always something else to see. I wouldn't want to feel pressured into doing things all day at set times for 3 days, would just stress me out.
