Behind you... Naked!
You know, Im only having a bit of a whine here, but I just got given a laptop today ( Typical - I just bought one only 2 weks ago )

Anyway, it wont run and it was clear to me that the HD was wrecked.

The other one has a clean install and ready to pack up for my lad so I thought Id try the Hd in this new one to hve a play and sure enough its fine on this one.

Phew!

Anyway the other HD I had a bit of a play with and I set about installing an O/S if I could...

Windows 7 simply said that it was unable to find such and such a file.

I decided to try XP because at least that gave me some info with the disks, but it did not... It simply showed up 1% and then gave me at best a few grunts in an endless loop for a few minutes before I stopped it.

I then thought sod it... FDISK on DOS / Win9x might give me somethign to go on, and lo and behold it did... Well, it allowed me to trash teh partition info and even though the initial disk verification took a hell of a while it allowed me to make a partition on it and I was even able to reboot and format the thing.

I hada bit of a giggle when I installed WinME onto it mind you, but then after twiddling for half an hour I wemnt to put XP on only to have it fall over again!

I might just go back to 98 just for kicks because at least it works.

Now, wheres my OS/2 disks?

Tried CHKDSKing it.marking the bad sectors and trying Windows 7 again? :D

FDISK brings back some good memories. Being totally baffled by it as a very young lad trying to build a super old Pentium 1 :D
