The Next Mass Effect

No longer moving forward due to Bioware closing down.

EA killed them. I liked the first Mass Effect and first Dragon age. But idiots went on to dumbing them down.

Money money money. Chase the money suits. Rather then letting devs do their thing.

Not surprised and tbh not too bothered either. Bioware died a long time ago.

From the information coming out today it sounds like they were getting on well with it.

What's being said sounds promising, but that's long before you have the execs coming in and telling you it's got to be online, more diverse, more micro-transactions, more like X other game, more live service, etc. Until I'm playing it on my PC, anything said early in development is just hopes and dreams. This is apparently one of the systemic failures at Bioware that delayed and eventually launched a Dragon Age that the audience rejected.

ME5 started development about the same time as "Exodus" (which IIRC has some ex-Bioware staff) and that's about to come out. ME5 was still years away, and simply didn't have time to save the company, especially if the stories coming out about how ME5 was all but suspended to try and fix "Dragon Age Veilguard" are true. Bioware sacrificed ME5 (which should have been finished by now) in order to finish Dragon Age, and it was the wrong call.

What could have been :(

They were still (even after several years) still in early development with about 20 people working on the next Mass Effect. You can't keep a franchise going if it's such a long time between releases - especially when the last one was a dud at launch.
Even if you count ME3 as the last real ME that still came out after Skyrim. I think the Elder Scrolls franchise will carry on. Eventually.

But then maybe that exception proves the rule.

how if it continues at the current rate? i will be approx 40 when the next ES game comes out. Assuming the same gap, the next next ES game, i'll be 60! that's not how you continue a game franchise at all. if i live to 75, i will likely only ever play 2 more new ES games. 2. i'm 38. how does this make sense to anyone working in bethesda

Well it doesn't make sense, especially considering it would be a cash cow.

TBH nothing makes sense any more. Letting loved franchises fester and yet throw money at things nobody wants. It's bizarre.

I just meant it will continue, ME isn't. Not unless someone else takes up the mantle. Saying that I'm currently playing the ME LE, if forgotten a lot since it'd been so long.

But yeah, I'm not confident I'll see more than one ES game now unless they change their ideology.

I understand the scale of games nowadays requires more development but still.

No matter whether people like Assassins Creed or not (personally enjoy them, especially Odyssey, Valhalla and Shadows because of the scale) they seem to manage to churn them out just about every year.

But then they're no ES or Cyberpunk. I imagine it'll be at least 10 years between CP 1&2, I can accept that considering the story, scope, updates and modding options.

You'll at the very least have plenty of time to wash your spuds.

I'm of a mind that if there's big gaps between games like TES I'm happy if it makes for a better release. They're huge and largely self contained, it's not like you're waiting huge chunks of time for a direct follow on sequel. What I do mind is how utterly awful the quality is given the excessive time spent, there's literally generational bugs in Bethesda games that are cross franchise because they've been using the same half arsed jury-rigged engine for everything since Morrowind. With a healthy studio you'd also have expansions to each release, and then another game on a tick-tock which is clearly what they had intended after acquiring the Fallout license and still couldn't manage, undoubtedly they're still mad that New Vegas clowned on their initial and follow up attempts.

Regardless, I digress! It's not the same, Bethesda games are loosely connected but stand alone whereas Bioware's major modern series are much more closely connected and still took an age for garbage results.
