The Nokia 5530, why?

Nokia 5800 is a great phone, touch screen 3.2in, HDSPA, Wifi, good media codecs, excellent connectivity.

Then why bring out the Nokia 5530, touch screen at 2.9in, and lose the 3g/haspda connectivity and the same s60 software? Why would you buy one, as the data connection is a major part of the experience. Kid/adults want to connect to the net to check mail, social networking, sports and news. Also all networks are now bringing out cheap data packages.

It just seems odd to me, is the phone aimed at numpties who don't read the specs ?

Mainly aimed at countries like Russia and China where they don't have a 3G network.

^^ exactly why i bought one. wanted a change of phone, still got 6m on my contract. so decided to get something cheap that can last me for a while.. (before i move to android)

and, as you say.. its very similar to the 5800 except for things i dont need, gps/3g

for those that wonder.. i got it for £140 from carphonewarehouse.. came with a vodafone pagy sim.. but it comes unlocked and unbranded

Apparently the 5530 should be dropping to £109 today at Carphone Warehouse. Getting under that £100 mark will be a real achievment.
