The **Now Eating** Thread

Your usual place should be giving you a family and friends discount as you are single handedly keeping them in business :p
Wholeheartedly agree!

@Gilbert89 Have they ever given you a freebie, drink, or discount? Gutted if they haven't and a poor show from them.

Good on you for giving them a break - hopefully, a wakeup call for your usual place.

P.S. interested to see how the new restaurant measures up. :)

They will soon realise when the lights suddenly go out :p

Honestly though I have been a good Customer, maximum profit as I tend to collect 95% of the time and only have delivery if spending £25/30

But recently the Curries haven’t been up to their previous standard I’m sad to say, even the quantity has become a noticeably lottery which when collecting and taking away I think is quite poor.

Anyway, I ordered the following…

Chicken Pathia
Chicken Rogan Josh
Pilau Rice
Plain Naan
Chilli Sauce (This was Volcanic but he did warn me)

Such mixed feelings with this one :(

Well, Everything was fantastic except the Chicken (I’m very fussy with meat especially Chicken) It’s difficult to describe but just had that off taste if anyone can relate

Next time I’ll go for Paneer or just Sauces, these Curries seem a completely different style with much more freshness to them, less oil etc.

Portion sizes are extremely generous, huge portions!

All the above was £23.80 collected which I don’t think it bad at all in this day and age.

Either way, very full and will return!!!

They used too, which wasn’t why I used to go but it is nice to feel like repeat custom is appreciated.

Examples…

Once it was busy, I turned up in 20 mins and advised there was a mix up and I ended up with a Large Cobra Beer whilst waiting…

If I ordered 2/3 Poppadoms they would chuck in 5/6 (Yet now if I order 2 I simply get 2)

If I ordered 1 Chilli Sauce I’d usually get Mango, Onion, Mint or like 4 Sauces now I just get 1.

Nothing major I suppose, but it just seems like they have changed a little bit, I’d get a Curry 3/4 Full in the container yet now there are times it’s barely above 1/4 with 1/2 full being the average but I think letting a container go out 1/4 full is poor.

Trying somewhere different due to the recent price increase, especially since this place is offering 20% Discount when ordered Online and Collected

Could this be a winner, winner Pathia dinner?

hahahahahahaha, I was looking for the swing doors and a sign saying no guns or amunition beyond this point
Glad you 'njoyed it in the main. Like I've said before, I've not had a proper curry since leaving Birmingham.

Looks decent that one @Gilbert89. Shame about the chicken though.

The Chicken is likely fine to most people, but I can’t do their Chicken :(

Curry’s were great though so I’ll be back for Sauce only or Paneer as a substitute.

Any recommendation’s of Curry Houses to check out if ever in Brum?

I’ve not been to Akbars in years, I have 2 local to me and it’s always busy when driving by.

Not of late no, Tom is more than likely your best call for currys. Last favourite of ours was Jimmy Spices all you can eat In Sutton.

@Gilbert89 - plenty of choice in Birmingham for curry!

Shababs Balti always a favourite, but plenty of choice on Ladypool Road!

Purnima in Bearwood is our best local. Had a superb Christmas Eve meal there this week. I can personally vouch for their pathia!

Hen and Chickens is one of the original and best Desi Pubs. Definitely worth checking out.

Asha’s is more upmarket and is great food to go with it (many others all mouth and no trousers in this segment IMO).

Zindiya in Moseley, Rajdoot and Lasan in the Jewellery Quarter and the Indian Brewery in Snow Hill all get honourable mentions.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had regardless of cuisine is Opheem. It’s probably the most expensive meal I’ve ever had, but it was just on another level. Aktar Islam is extremely talented and made a point of serving a dish to every table and seemed pleased to spend time with customers and took pleasure in explaining the dish. It was great to speak with him as his knowledge and research on the food became evident.

I’m sure I’ve barely scratched the surface!

Trying somewhere different due to the recent price increase,

I'm also gutted about recent price rises.. the Thai near me, recently raised their prices.. but not by 5% or even 10%.. each and every dish was raised by at least 20% and some nearer 40%..

e.g Noodles were 10.50 now 14.50, plain rice was 3.00 now 3.95.. and similar on every other dish..

but i'm absolutely gutted.. I love the food.. and probably spent between 100 and 200 a month in there.. I guess they are either struggling, and feel that raising prices is easier than getting more people to come in..

Thing is.. compared to all the local chinese's their prices were already very high, which is why I suspect they were struggling to fill the place..

I'm really torn, don't want it to close, but feel that prices rises of between 20 and 40% across the board is just too much..

First world problems I guess ;)

@SimonRigga - it’s the same everywhere. Lockdown started the takeaway price rises and then it’s just accelerated. Food in restaurants and supermarkets has gone the same way. Inflation I guess!

I could have understood even 10% across the board.. but close to 40% is too far.. ( i'm guessing their costs haven't risen by 40% and the staff did NOT get 40% pay rises!! )

I've even changed my google review of the place from 5 to 3 stars.. purely based on prices..

The other places around here, have risen in price.. but no where near that.. and it was one of the most expensive places anyway .. before the rise..

I'll just have to cook more I guess.. it's not like Thai is hard to cook, or even expensive to cook..

edit: makes more sense..

My local Curry house is around £7 cheaper for the same food ordered within a 15/20 min walk and the Chinese has just gone crazy high on their prices + the quality and quantity of the food has dropped, much like the supermarkets.
