Activision says Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has broken the global sales record for a videogame, grossing $775m (£490m) in its first five days on sale.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, released soon after, was close behind. Its publisher said it shipped seven million launch units, worth $450m (£320m).

Very pleased for Skyrim!

Slightly worried about MW3 though...still being lapped up. Same again next year?!

Lol, how anyone is still entertained by the Call of Duty games i don't know. They just release the same game every year.

Thats impressive that an genre specific game like Skyrim can compete with the likes of MW3 which admittedly is a game aimed at the masses.

I am pleased to see skyrim has sold so well. Just like mw3 it was well marketed/ hyped. Skyrim was the first game I bought on release for about 6yrs! I am not even a big fan of the elder scrolls series, not disappointed with my purchase though, it is great game.

If you scroll to the bottom of the article theres a link to bf3 sales. At the end it mentions that bf2 sold 11 milion in total never knew it was that high.

I'm also very pleased and maybe a little surprised a game like Skyrim would sell so well. Should give game developers plenty encouragement to invest money in top notch rpg games.

I dont think bf3 has disclosed its origin sales has it?

Also wasnt gta4 the lead selling video game or did cod break them records?

these figures are pointless.

Check STEAM stats for proper figures, that is box-copies only; so many people ordered online who cares of dvd distribution! :p
Skyrim broke all game records on Steam, including the whole COD series!

I guess you forgot about all the lag then? I also wouldnt call it smooth, I have had plenty of crashes / issues / bugs with bf since release.

That is what i was trying to say. they called it a beta to test servers, but on release they were terrible anyway and there were tons of server issues making me wonder what the "beta" was actually about.
