So, we've all grown a little tired of out-dated and biased benchmarks which has slowly evolved into this thread.

Owners of all cards welcome and it should give us all a legitimate thread to point to when someone asks "what card should I buy, I play xxxx"

I will link all user results in this post, organised by game, and then by resolution and number of cards.

If submitted results please state system specs, including clock speed and drivers used as well as in-game settings. Also putting them in a user friendly bar chart of some sort should come in handy :)

Don't forget to disable v-sync when possible, some games DO have an engine based frame cap however.

I'll get the ball rolling.

More to come from my self and other users shortly. Provided I have the game I will also take requests. Currently working on BF3, Sleeping Dogs, Metro 2033 and a few others, post will be updated accordingly.

*Please note this is NOT a thread for some pointless AMD vs Nvidia bashing or VRAM debates, anyone doing so I will request that their comments are removed, this thread is purely for helping out others.*

Edit: Any advise on changes/improvements welcome.

Will start benching tonight, got work off tomorrow :P

For Just Cause 2, what benchmark did you use? Or was it an average of all 3? (I can bench that on in a second, got that game downloaded)

Sorry should have mentioned, that was using the Concrete Jungle benchmark, as I'm led to believe its the most demanding of the three. I'll put that in OP.

Just going to update OP with Gregster and Rusty's scores :)

Edit: OP updated.

Edit 2: IF the mods see fit, could we get a sticky please :)

Its going to be fairly hard to gauge a 'stock' clock on Kepler due to the boost clock, something some other reviews/benchmark actually fail to mention.

I can always adjust the score links in OP to state if a card was stock or OC'd if that would help? I'll also be removing my hot link pictures in favour of links to make browsing a little easier on the eye :)

Coming today: BF3, Sleeping Dogs, Metro 2033 & Borderlands 2.

I've also found a really heavy spot on BL2 for benching, I dropped to near 60 FPS (from 140) in the 'Lynchwood Refinery" on the latest DLC, so I'll do a couple of tests in the first room that has ~10 loaders. Its certainly a place where you will see the lowest mins and averages in the game.

Edit: Would really like to see some results from: 560Ti/570/80/660/660Ti/670/6950/70/90/7850/70/7950 users. If its ok with gregster I'll host the excel template he made which is very very easy to use :)

just a few queries, If the game doesnt come with a built in benchmark then how do we know where abouts in the game to get some data? multiplayer games as we know are hard to get an accurate reading, as theres many factors that can affect the results everytime.

For games without an in-built benchmarking utility I'm just doing a run of a certain level/map. I'll try to mention with the results what level/map was used along side the settings.

Mine looked like that too, its either down to the drivers or one of the in-game settings.

Bottles and team-mates eye lids were a dark black while the rest was kind of a smoky/fog.

It does indeed, I'm curious if its something to do with 'Bloom/HBAO' which is a setting I usually have disabled anyhow.

Edit: Beaten by rusty :p I usually play with bloom disabled and SSAO with 2xAA

Even at 120hz, a single 7970 can be asking a bit much if you want max eye candy, for example look at my OC'd BF3 scores, I can nearly double those frame rates by dropping a little AA, HBAO and the odd non-essential setting.

But yes, I am in agreement that at 1080p 60hz a 7870 holds up very very well. Especially considering its essentially a 28nm version of the Caymen based 6970. That die shrink has unleashed so much potential, it boggles the mind to think what the 8870 will do...

Good point on the 120Hz.

Thats interesting, i did not know that, is that just the 7870?

From what I understand with AMD the x9xx cards get a die shrink and come out as the new x8xx cards with better yields (I may be completely wrong just my understanding) which gives slightly better clock for clock performance along with higher out of box clocks. x9xx is a new chip every time.

If you look and anandtech's bench comparison between the 5850-70/6850-70 along with the 6950-70/7850-70 you won't see much performance difference.

Edit: thanks for the results tonester, I'll get updating shortly :)

Just an idea

Perhaps there could be links to any benchmarks/tools used on this thread on the front page.

I have got the AvP benchmark but I am having a bit of a problem finding the tool mentioned above that people are using with it.

Noted :)

I'll add links when I update the OP this evening :D

Edit: Provided the tools aren't massive (500mb+) I'll host them as well to avoid links being removed.

Don't know, the 6970 is tracking the 7870 by 0 to -10% at times, other times the 6970 just gets utterly mullured by it, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/509?vs=548

I know the 5### series is the same arch as the 4### series, and the 6### series is a slightly altered 5### series.

I always thought the 7### series, from the 7750 right up to the 7970 was a significantly different arch, and all the same. Well, when i say significantly it shares a lot in common with Cayman, but with some major tweaks, like uncoupling the ROP's from the L2 and IMC to make that whole thing more efficient.

From what the slides say 7### to 8### series is like the 4### series to 5### series, pretty much identical to eachother, but with further tweaks and optimisation, better power consumption, a small bump in clock for clock performance and some more cores.

The lowest estimates have it at +20%, the highest at +40%.
I think it's +25%, bringing the 8870 to the performance to where mine is at now (overclocked) and a little more, whats that? close to a stock 7970?

I'm putting all that together from stuff reading over the years, which of-course could be way out...

Anyway. i'm on Steam downloading a Just Cause 2 Demo as i type this.
Another bench coming up later :)

Some interesting reading :)

As I said, its just the basics of what I understood, though given how well a clocked 7870 does vs a 6970 I'd be expecting (hopefully) for the 8870 to smash a 7970 once clocked :D

Done a few runs on bf3 as per the video on here and not sure why im getting my max fps so high , starting the fraps benchmark as the apc door opens and you get out

Any ideas why its so high ? it happens everytime i do it , using a 7850

What settings and resolution? also did you manage to die doing the bench? I know the spawn screen can give some mighty FPS spikes.

Thanks everyone, I WILL update today (got side-tracked by a beer last night).

The mins on Arkham City I wouldn't worry about, its a bug in the benchmark, second scene will always stutter for the first second giving the low minimums. Also remember DX11 was broken on this game for a long long time, so much so I played through it in DX10.

Thanks for the contributions everyone, OP has been updated, If I've managed to miss anything off let me know.

I've intentionally left Heaven scores off, as we have the Heaven thread for that :)
