The OCZ Vertex 3 Thread

You can and it will impact performance a bit, but I doubt it would be noticeable - it'd certainly still be far, far faster than a mechanical drive.

Yea I'm running W7, thanks. Can you run TrueCrypt whole disk encryption on SSDs ok? Is that going to impact performance?

I ran my Intel X25-M 8-GB with TrueCrypt - the performance decrease was negligible, in fact I'd go as far as saying I barely noticed any difference.

When I try to run it off the Marvell SATA 3 port the BIOS reports invalid system disk  I'm using the Marvell 1.0.0.1034 driver. Its all good with the Intel ports.

I have a similar issue - I'd wager you have another drive plugged in? If so, you've got the same problem as me: you tell the BIOS to boot from the Vertex, but it boots off the first onboard channel instead, which isn't bootable and so you get invalid disk.

I'm sure there's a setting that's wrong somewhere, but heck if I know what it is :) At the moment I'm still running on the onboard intel, as Grub throws a wobbler if I move it across. Something to fix when I get a chance..

worth me upgrading to a OCZ Vertex 3 from a OCZ Vertex 2?

does the Vertex 3 have any other plus's other than speed? e.g doesn't degrade as much?

I made a thread about this a few days ago. No one with a vertex 3 replied. The rest said not worth it.

All the people that have a vertex 3 seem to be busy running benchies. But does it make a difference in real world use over a vertex 2e? So far the answer seems like, not really.

I will wait a while and just get a revo drive x3 when they come out which should be around 1GB/sec with 100k+ IOPS ;)

No idea as this is my first SSD but I'd hazard a guess and say it's not really going to be worth it, especially in normal usage.

If you already have an SSD it doesn't look like it's worth it unless you want to get a bigger drive.

Just got my vertex 3 installed.

Running ATTO my read speeds are on a par with a UD3 posted earlier but the writes are way off at 256.0 it drops to 385654 and then for the rest of them stays around this figure anyone got an idea what I have done wrong?

This. Don't get me wrong, my Vertex 3 feels faster than my old 64GB C300 but it's not like a noticeable upgrade or anything. The only reason I got one is because I wanted more space.

You need to install the latest IRST drivers.
