The OCZ Vertex 3 Thread

Think you have the same issue as I did.
Have you enabled ACHI in the BIOS?

1. See if this lets you change to AHCI
OR
2. Set AHCI in bios and re-install windows

(thanks to Shine for this tip in my earlier post, here)

I have AHCI enabled, but still get the same bench mark results, am not complaining as the read is about right just the write is off.

Awesome drive, I have the 128mb for my new PC, did a clean install of windows and I couldnt understand how half of it had already been used!

Then I realised hibernate was on with a 16gb file, and swap file was on with another 16gb file (16gb memory), so turned them off and got me 32gb of the SSD back that was never goign to be used!

Anyway, I was having a problem with the drive and my p8p67 where the PC would lock up and the hard disk light would stay on totally, the PC "worked" in that things like core temp, and other real time graphs kept updating, but nothing else would work.

After some searching found out that "If you are on Asus motherobard, check if you have Hot Swap enabled in bios"

hopefully this will fix it, not sure if others are having the same issue with an Asus board too! Will see if carries on working now!

This. Don't get me wrong, my Vertex 3 feels faster than my old 64GB C300 but it's not like a noticeable upgrade or anything. The only reason I got one is because I wanted more space.

Yep it's the same reason I've ordered a new SSD I needed more space and it makes sense to get one of the latest generation ones if you have SATA 3. Hopefully my M4 will be here Wed so I can carry on building VM's.

Well installed and re-run benchmark and get the same results.

Any other ideas?

Matt

Strange Matt. I assume you are on the latest P67 UD3 and have the vertex 3 installed in your SATA 6 port? Are you sure you have AHCI enabled? You seem to be getting similar performance to those that are using the marvel controllers.

Got mine working on the Marvell Controller, a couple of reboots and trying again magically sorted it. I'm getting exactly the same results as the Rampage earlier in the thread so i'm happy, I can't say that it feels any different to the Vertex Rev 1 RAID 0 I had previously in real world usage but as they both died I needed something new and it's always nice to have new toys.

Just got mine up and running, according to HWmonitor its temperature is 120C.. I'm guessing that its not detecting it correctly, otherwise  ! :D

I need a 240GB SSD. I use my computer for work and Photoshop (probably the most intensive thing).

Am I going to notice the difference between a Vertex 3 above a Vertex 2 (or Crucial M4).

I'll be putting it in a 2011 Macbook Pro (on the 6gbps port).

The drive doesn't bother reporting it properly, it appears to be just locked at that setting (128C) for everyone. Other apps and S.M.A.R.T. attribute viewing tools all show the same thing.

Before you buy please note that the M4 has some issues in the MBP. I have the 256GB M4 and it does freeze occasionally. It's not enough to annoy me, you can see my thoughts and issues here:

Any questions just shout.

I'm quite happy with the performance I'm getting from the V3 on my R3E board. Out of interest has anyone found a controller card which will give full Sata 3 performance on a X58 motherboard for the V3?

Saw a guys who was getting loads of BSOD on his UD4/2600K so I'm not sure if I want to update. There is no speed improvements so for me, perhaps it's a case of if it's not broke don't fix it.

Tempted to upgrade the firmware just to see if it improves boot times (not that I need faster boot times! :D).

Has anyone tried and noticed any noticeable improvements?
