I have heard of the pencil mod, but not seen any pics or had any good instructions. I understand as well that having am ohmmeter is important, and I don't have one. The final reason i've not looked into it is that coolbits only goes up to 1600 on the memory for this card and I am not familiar with the ways of making go further.

Any advice on any of these unknowns to me would be appreciated though :).

Well heres a LINK to where the instructions are that i went by. I'm unable to post a pic of my effort, but its all there in that link.

I didnt use an ohmmeter or anything, just shaded the resistor thing with a HB pencil as much as i could, then tested to see how high it clocked.

I also stopped using coolbits as soon as i hit the limit on the memory, as i needed to go higher. So im now using ATI Tool 0.25 beta 10, athough there are other programs to use.

Right I've just got my Zalman fitted, it's at stock at the moment on the following:

560MHz Core : 1650MHz Memory

I'm hoping a simple volt mod would increase the core speeds closer to 600MHz?

Yes... LoL... but still got it £55 cheaper than what OcUK currently has it at including delivery and VAT.
 
Thanks Johnson. I suppose it can't do too much harm and as it stands I am topping out at about 545/725 for playing Oblivion (anything higher and it completely bombs out. No freezes, no artifacts, just static) even though I can get a lot higher without artifacts in benchmarks and other games. I am guessing it's lack of voltage.

Shame coolbits can't go any higher. I'm a bit nervous about using other programmes (ignorance breeds fear in this case), but I suppose I can conquor it.
 
An alternative to ATITool is Powerstrip. It has more functionality but it doesn't include an artifact tester (like ATITool does). I use a combination of the two. I use Powerstrip to increase the clocks while running ATITool's artifact tester to see if there are any obvious artifacts.

Powerstrip, that looks like the ticket for me. I've got to install a new router when I get home tonight, but if I can do it in enough time I'll see about downloading it. Might give ATItool a shot too. I'm not that comfortable about installing anything ATI on my machine in case it some how finds a way to conflict with the nvidia stuff on there, but if so many people are using it without problem it must just be my paranioa steering me away from it.

Hi and thanks....yes my cpu will go further i have benched up o 2850mhz not tried for any more.....and good luck as i think you'll have a hard time if your chip only does 2.7 :)

By the looks of your set up you're using coolbits too. Was it those clocks that bagged you 11,000? And what are you using for cooling and what are the temps like? I am just wondering if 11,000 is in my sights too after the volt mod. I figure without it 10,000 is about the ceiling these card can get.

Hi there...i should have said you'll be needing much more than 2.7ghz.....my cooler is a zalman cf900 it is the best air cooler in my opinion.....i broke just over 10k with my 146@3056 7900 @ 560/1700...and you'll be needing ati tool to go further and scan for artifacts...coolbits only goes to 822 on mem and yes you'll have to do vmod to get 11k....temps @ load 51c:)

Well i can get the CPU to about 2.83-2.85 and still finish 3dmark05 and 06 (though not 03) and at 570/1600 with 2.7 on the CPU i got 9878. So i think 10k MIGHT just be a runner with the right drivers and a bit of luck even without the volt mod.

Which one is the cf900? I'm using the vf900 (which at the moment is keeping me down to 39c underload) and I am sure there is a vf700 which performs similarly but is a little bigger and more problematic for SLi, but I don't know the cf900. All the Zalman's are good though, especially considering how quiet they are. I can certainly live with the low 50's under load after the volt mod.
 
My mistake...i got same cooler as you....all you need now is a 1.4 vmod...and you should get at least 660 core :D
 
They're good aren't they? If I turn both the vf900 and the CPU heatsink down, a Zalman 9500 aero (i've got them both running through a fan control unit at the front) my computer is virtually silent. It's almost disturbing how quite it is.
 
Same cpu cooler as well lol...if your chip can do 2.85 with a vmod you should be heading towards 11k....i just seen a post with a single core at 2990 and a 1.4v mod he got 11225....so you would be close :)
