I've tried BC recently and it's nothing like the good old days on the pc of BF2 and BF2142, everything seems tooooooo bloody big for my liking. Not happy with it at all, played it for about twenty minutes and off it went.
I'm assuming Pacific is going to be the same

First impressions...
Quite good but it's still an arcade game masquerading as a serious sim on the PC.
Only tried the first (US) mission and a couple of training exercises so far. Found the flying quite tricky, XB360 pad tends to overcompensate and I was just flinging the plane around hoping my rear gunner would get the Zero's. Physics obviosly very simplified.
I think the naval combat sections will be more satisfying. Incidentally, you can't run the XB360 pad and KBM at the same time, you need to choose one or the other.
The blurb gives the impression the campaign is dynamic and you can change the outcome of the war, but it still seems like scripted missions to me.

Quick update to the above - can confirm there is nothing dynamic about the campaign...
Failed the second US mission last night after allowing the Japs to sink USS Enterprise before sinking their carrier. However after the mission failed screen, you just get taken back to the menu to try again - the game doesn't move on or adjust the next mission to reflect the loss of a major Allied resource.
On the subject of resource management, I'm not becoming a fan of how one minute you are based on the carrier, next minute you are in the cockpit of an aircraft with Japanese Zeros bearing down on you, but still trying to manage the strategy screen. There's no option to do this while paused either that I can see. AFAIR the old Total Air War sim from DiD gave you this option. The strategy screem interface is far from friendly, you have to use the KB to select units to deploy which under pressure is much slower than the mouse. Clicking a flight and ordering it attack a Japanese ship the command either defaulted to another aircraft which I'd already tasked with something else or in another case wouldn't accept orders at all.
On the subject of controls, I'm actually finding the mouse better for flying the aircraft than the XB360 pad, however flying missions are still much harder than those involving sea vessels. Give us the choice to stay on the ship and manage the battle from there.
So unfortunately my initial euphoria over the title has drooped a bit - just another console conversion which in this case exaggerates on the box what it does. And with the install code matched to Windows Live, presumably yet another PC title with zero re-sale value on the 'bay.

Only saw Battle and assumed it was the latest Battlefield pacific game - doh!
Yes i thought that when i played the demo, as with RE5 too, but upon buying the game i was pleasantly surprised, it has enough strategy to keep me interested and enough action too, looks superb, and is great value for money due to its length, different modes etc, which is a lot more than you can say for a lot of of the so called primo games out there at the moment.

Bit of a bump...
Currently stuck on the Japanese mission where you have to take over four islands. Has anyone figured out how to take out the US submarine as it manages to take out my landing craft before it reaches the last island? Trying to manually launch depth charges is way too tricky and it seems even when the sub has been spotted you can't set it as a target for the AI either.

Polished off the Japanese campaign fairly easily in the end. Now reached Okinawa in the US campaign which I *think* is the last mission. Proving a bit of a toughie, think this is one scenario where you need to think a bit strategically and conserve your resources.
