Too many shockophiles getting their grind on with 4 threads, a bioshock thread for those that really don't 'get' it.

Dull
Boring
Not innovative
Over hyped

That is all.

Buh Buh Buh Bioshock will change the way we look at fps games! It has broken the mould!

Dont ask me what this notorious 'mould' is, I think only kev levine knows this.

I agree with all your points really, techincally it is one hell of a game, the sounds, dialogue, visuals etc.

The combat seems awkward to me and I only tried playing it with a gun once and shot one guy, but was desperate to try the so many options to pass problems method and use plasmids.

I think once the big FPS games come out, people will forget about Bioshock (apart from the hardcore fans obviously) and realise a game doesnt have to be 'original' to be good.

This is a damn stupid thread, how can you judge a game based on a 20 minute demo? surely the reviewers who have played the ENTIRE game and rate it as one of the best games ever made should be a slightly more persuasive source? Wait until you've played the actual game until you judge it, after all you have no idea how the story will develop, gameplay will develop, what the other plasmids are like or anything about it.

Im not going to say its crap, its just not my kinda thing. I like a good FPS game like COD, Max Payne or HL2, and Ill admit i didnt realise bioshock was supposed to be innovative etc so its was not nearly what i thought it would be.

I liked the way you could search dead bodies on it to pick up ammo, health and other things, i liked the whole zapping stuff out your arm. However i dont like dark and depressing games, and i can only hit so many people with a wrench before i get bored.

Personally I found it very linear to play, you came in a door and another was open to go through, there was very little capability of exploration, which in a game thats wanting to be innovative id expect to be able to take more than one route.

The graphics are nice, but they arent as nice as a lot of people are making it out to be, graphically i think GoW looked a lot nicer.

Its not my kinda game, end of. I dont think its overrated as ive not had many people talking about it, and i dont think its had too much hype and screamed for attention.

This is a damn stupid thread

I agree in a way, but frankly people seem to take things to heart and surely you would rather the bitchign was kept to this thread than the other bioshock thread?

how can you judge a game based on a 20 minute demo?

Same way with any game, if the demo cant convince me its good, then something is definately wrong.

surely the reviewers who have played the ENTIRE game and rate it as one of the best games ever made should be a slightly more persuasive source?

The reviewers dont know what other people play. Reviewers offer what they think, but frankly IIRC reviewers said Colin McRae Dirt was good, and its the biggest heap of tosh ive played.

Not saying you specifically, but a lot of people have claimed its the best game they have ever played and are hyping it up to be the next step in the fps genre, including the developers (surprise surprise)

No one is saying its crap, just over rated.

but thats just ridiculous! what are you basing it on? a short demo with mostly cutscenes? I just can't see how people can say a game is over rated that they have barely even licked at the surface of!

lol sorry I seemed so... Err... stupid in my first post i didn't realise how I'd put it, but basically I just don't see what the big deal is, graphics are not very good, infact for the closed in spaced the game displays I would expect a lot better, i preferred HL2 graphics, though HL2 has its own problems...

Everyone's talking about these ways to kill people with plasmids etc, really I don't see the fund in it, its just shooting by another name.

Last really is this hacking stuff, everyone's like "Yay I hacked a flying thing"... What a boring task that was, playing Pipemania on my 360 to get a flying gun to shoot instead of me shooting.

Transversely why are people saying its great on the same evidence? Did 2k deliberately give us a pants demo... Doesn't seem logical to me.

The atmosphere is excellent, you can tell that just from watching the trailers. That's what I'll be playing for.

I don't particularly give a crap that the graphics aren't amazing, they suit the feel of the game down to the ground and the gameplay seems beyond what most FPS games offer.

Yea I am basing it on the demo, who knows maybe I will love the game and you will all dislike it!

but as I said the people who have been praising it are also basing it only on a demo.

I think the demo gives a good impression of what to expect pace wise and atmosphere wise and I didn't really like it. Some games truly deserve their high class status, but bioshock claims to be something new and original but I dont see it myself.

Well i was also going on the large number of close to 100% resources my very reputable reviewers. And if your judging a game based on graphics then maybe thats why tyou dont get the gameplay. And saying Half Life 2 looks better is just ridiculous, this is far far far superior to half life 2's graphics.

The hacking game is a nice little add-on as supposed to clicking 'hack' and watching a blue bar filling up. Its far better than most hacking games (the only one that comes close for me is surprise, surprise System Shock 2's.

And the plasmids are hardly guns, somehow using a holographic image of myself to lure an enemy onto a trip mine, or setting a barrel on fire then using telekinesis to throw it at my enemies, or setting a tripwire with a crossbow, setting an enemy on fire and watching them run to the water to put themselves out then getting clotheslined by the tripwire, sliiiightly different to shooting someone in the head with a <insert generic shotgun, assault rifle, pistol, sniper rifle> here. everyone that is saying this brings nothing new to the table, id love to see what games you've been playing because i must have missed some classics :o

I personally love the backstory and yes the atmosphere is great. I even learned Mr Ryans speech that you get upon descending to Rapture, but I'm not prepared to force myself through dull combat and such, just to find out what happens.

I am Andrew Ryan and I’m here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his ground?

No! – says the man in Washington, it belongs to the poor.
No! – says the man in the Vatican, it belongs to god!
No! – says the man in Moscow, it belongs to everyone!

I rejected those answers - instead I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose, Rapture!

A city where the artist would not be censored, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small and with the sweat of your ground, Rapture can be come YOUR city as well.

You didn't learn it that well, im 99% sure its sweat of his 'brow' :p

great speach though :)

Ahhh, that would make more sense, I keep missing it the first time round and the next time he says it the music and mechanical sounds kick in so its a bit muffed.

Does anyone else love the 1960's setting, i really like it a lot!

The Sound is immense! I like the sound of the big daddy's, i bet the Foley Artist who did the sounds for this game had a hoot of a time! I reckon a Big Daddy is a Didgiredoo but pitch bended and with added reverb. Also the sound of the gun turret helicopters when they are damaged is really good and had me laugh a few times, it would come out of nowhere and have a high pitched wizz sound!

Just the little things in this game make it for me!

Personally thought the graphics where awesome and couldn't fault anything.

I guess if you don't like story driven FPS's you wont like this.

Josh

EDIT- I personally thought the plasmids added to the gameplay considerably, if you set a splicer a light they would run and jump to water, once there in water you can switch plasmid and shock the water with lightning to kill them.

I think the best thing for me is how all the weapons and stuff are made out of normal items because they didn't have weapons in rapture at the beginning, only needing them when the fighting started. So you have ammo cannisters made out of tin cans and scopes that are just telescopes strapped to the side of the barrel, just looks really unique.
