thoughts?

Will be a similar sensor thats going in the A7R2 or A9 camera i would have thought. Its about time Canon offered a high MP camera.

My money is on an exmoor canon/sony hyrbid.

Possibly but canon have had their own 40-50Mp sensor out in the world being tested by profesionals since before the D800 was released so I wouldn't rule out a canon sensor being used.

The fact that csnon haven't released a D800 competitor in all this time means they probably weren't happy with their sensors performance. The Sony sensors not only have the resolution but marginally better high ISO and of course the significantly better DR. My guess is canon didn't want to release a 40-50MP sensor where the DR was still >3stops behind the competition. Now it looks like they will soon release such a high MP camera so I wonder if their own ADC technology has improved to allow Sony exmor like DR, or whether they just gave up and will use a Sony part.

A hybrid is also possible. Nikon almost certainly does this, e.g. Their D7200 camera uses a sensor fabricated by Toshiba but the ADC is very similar to Sony exmor sensors giving similar high DR and shadow detail.

Anyway will be interesting to see such a long awaited camera.

Weird, all I can find online about the D7200 is rumoured specs. Not a single mention of what sensor it'll use outside of 24mp or who will make it.

August can't come soon enough for me. I can finally go full frame with a clear conscience that I'm not blowing family funds that could be better used elsewhere :D

I will either get this or stock of a UK 5d3 when they price drop them to get shot. In all honesty that will probably be my route as that will be a enormous step up in ISO quality and AF I require :)

I meant D7100, it uses a sensor fabbed by Toshiba but the ADC works very similar but not quite the same as the Sony fabbed sensor in the D7000.
The Aptina sensors in the Nikon 1 cameras also actually behave similar to Sony Exmor but are much smaller so the DR isn't obvious

so this is a replacement for the 5d3 already?

Doesn't look like it. It looks like a studio and landscape photographers wet dream though.

I believe a 5DIV is supposed to be coming later this year. I imagine with higher ISOs, more FPS, less MP.

From the DPreview my first sentence may ring true unfortunately.
